Letters[]

First Letter

To Hannah

I'm writing this letter in the hope that you'll let go of the prejudices you have against me, and listen to me calmly. It's been a long time since I've encountered any humans. As you can see, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to be out and about looking like I do. I'm different, and that means I won't be accepted. It's safer to blend in with the crowd. I completely understand your fear and mistrust. Your courage, however, has blown me away. I saw the bright side of humanity in you—something I haven't seen in a long time. It's also why I decided to write you this letter.

I must say, Hannah, that although life is as unpredictable as the weather, bad luck is sometimes unavoidable, like rainy days. I've lost some very important things because I didn't know how to treasure them. I didn't know she'd be taken away if I didn't cherish her. This time, I'll cherish my encounter with you. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Second Letter

Dear Hannah

I haven't gone out much this past year, but the day I received your reply, the sun felt so much brighter, and the cold wind blowing through the forest felt a little more bearable. It's almost as if spring had arrived. The moss on my shoulders started growing rapidly, and tiny mushrooms started emerging.

I found a soft patch of grass in the castle's garden and was about to lie down to read your letter when I noticed a small, lone flower blooming in the corner. Its petals swayed gently in the wind, and I wanted to pluck it, dry it, and send it to you, but I gave up because of my sharp my [sic] claws.

I lay down beside the flower and enjoyed the sunshine as the flower's fragrance wafted through the air. I think I even dreamed of you.

Woolhead

Third Letter

Dearest Hannah

I thought I'd gotten used to the Iron Forest's whistling wind, but the forest feels cold and desolate on the days I don't hear back from you. Your letters break the monotony of the landscape.

I used to stay cooped up in the castle when the weather was bad, writing scripts that no one would ever read. But reading your replies over and over is my new pastime.

I used to start my scripts with comedy and end them with tragedy, like life. We all get off to a magnificent start, but end up falling by the wayside. These days, though, I tend to give my characters happy endings.

I never used to believe in miracles. Then you appeared. My life is now full of hope and anticipation. Words can't describe how I feel, but I really wish I could see you now.

Love, Arnold
