Overview Gallery
The interior minister of France. Heavily relied on by Louis XV, he was given more responsibilities when Louis XVI took the throne. He always put the interests of the royal family first and assisted with reforms. Even though he was born in an old noble family, he has a casual personality and would often hide his true intentions behind a smile.
Blaisdell is a Queen Marie Companion.

"I will sacrifice everything, even love, to save my country." |
"I dedicated my youth to France so that it may have the glorious future I have envisioned." |

Lantern Quotes[]
When Interacting |
---|
"How did you find time to visit me today, my Queen? I'm honored." |
"I won't reject your Majesty's goodwill of course... But I'm not very good at responding in kind." |
"What do you wish to know, Your Majesty? I'm afraid that the "news" I have to offer would not be enough to satisfy you." |
"Are you curious why these rules were set up? Haha... Well, it's to focus everyone's attention here, and distract them from noticing other things, of course." |
"The reason why the King thinks highly of me has nothing to do with my noble birth." |
"I shall carry out the King's orders, no matter how difficult they may be." |
"I'm not qualified to talk about how a King should rule. But if you're willing to have faith in me, I will do my utmost to aid you." |
"Your Majesty, you seem a little different today." |
Upon Receiving a Preferred Gift* |
"It's not rare for me to receive gifts, but it's refreshing to get one from you. To top it off, it's not even a reward." |
"You look so sure of yourself. I'm guessing you've already found out my likes and dislikes. Such social skills are pretty important too. I'm glad to see that you've grown." |
"You once asked the King what I liked. Is it because you wanted to give me this surprise gift? Did I do something deserving of a reward?" |
Upon Receiving a Non-Preferred Gift* |
"I never thought that something like this could ever be given as a gift... Your Majesty, you're more creative than you used to be." |
"What made you think of getting this for me? I'm really curious about what you think of me. How did I inspire you to get this?" |
"Finding out about what other people like, so that you can give them what they desire, is a rather practical social skill. Consider this a word of advice." |
After Using All Interactions Attempts |
"Your Majesty, if you would excuse me, please allow me to have some time, alone." |
"I'm not... in the right state of mind at the moment. Please allow me to have a moment to myself..." |
*If you give gifts in batches and the total is 20 affection points or more, even if they are 1-star gifts and the traits do not match, the Companions will still show that they liked the gifts and say a quote of appreciation.

Letters[]
First Letter
Your Majesty
Perhaps my sudden letter will trouble you, but please continue reading.
I’ve been running into you quite often at the Lantern lately, and I am honored. Our conversations these days give me the impression that you’ve changed a lot. But I am unable to tell for now if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
You should know better than me what situation the royal court is in now. Any gossip or hostile feelings can easily destroy the commoners’ impression of the royal family. A frivolous ruler would earn the ire of the people. And hence, a ruler should be thrifty, and rule conscientiously in order to turn the tide.
I hope the change in you will create an opportunity for France.
With utmost respect
Blaisdell
Second Letter
Your Majesty
After I first met you at the Lantern, I keep hoping to see you again. Of course, I’ve been able to do so every time.
Your Majesty, judging from the necklace incident, you’ve matured a lot, and very quickly, and everyone in Versailles can see that. I’m appreciating you more and more by the day.
Please forgive the objections I raised before -- I swear that I was only stating my conclusions based on facts, and hope that you won’t misunderstand me. I do not wish there to be any hard feelings between us, for that would be terrible for the bond between ruler and subordinate.
When I was a youth, father often described me as a “young man with the cunning of an old fox”, and these days, people see me as a cunning old man still. But I am certain that they do not really understand me.
Your Majesty, tell me, what kind of person do you think I am?
With utmost respect
Blaisdell
Third Letter
Your Majesty
How have you been lately? The weather’s getting colder, and I hope that you and the King are taking good care of your health. A few days ago, I was discussing things with the King in his study, and when you were mentioned, the King looked deep in thought.
The King is an avid learner, gentle, gracious, and dedicated to you. He is a virtuous King and a loyal husband.
It’s important for the royal family that you two get along, and it holds meaning for the rest of the country as well. You might find my words rather annoying, but I’m glad that you’ve read up to this point.
Tomorrow evening, I am holding a banquet at my place.
I sincerely invite you and the King to attend, and I will look forward to seeing you.
With utmost respect

These are all works in progress. If you feel inspired to actually flesh out the bullet points or add content, please do.
Before the Story
Blaisdell has been working for the French government for many years. Louis XV gave him an important role, which Louis XVI expanded.
Chapter 1
Temporary bullet points; just some notes about what I think should be included in the final summary
- Blaisdell appears near the end of the stage to help deal with the affair of the necklace
- If you do the 1-12 route, he helps you decide how to deal with those who were involved in the whole affair
- His goodwill rises at some...questionable choices
Chapter 2
Temporary bullet points; just some notes about what I think should be included in the final summary
- I don't recall him doing much in the 2-2 route; just supporting the King as they try to push through the tax reforms
- In 2-16, we learn he's wiling to play the antagonist in Marie's story
- His loyalties lie less to the monarchs than the French monarchy as an institution
Trivia[]
- Unlike the other companions of Queen Marie, the character of Blaisdell does not have a historic counterpart.
- Instead, the Minister for the Maison du Roi, the precursor the interior minister, before the revolution was Pierre-Charles Laurent de Villedeuil. During the revolution, the position was held by François-Emmanuel Guignard, comte de Saint-Priest.
- According to the author, the creation of Blaisdell was partially inspired by Honoré Gabriel Riqueti, comte de Mirabeau, a politician in history.
