This guide is meant to serve as an in-depth guide to calculating your stage scores. The Phantom Mirror and Fantasy Fair have some different rules that deserve their own guides.

Disclaimer: The multipliers in this article are currently being tested due to suspected changes since December 2020. They should still be good for comparing and choosing items, but may be off from actual scores given in stages.

Overview[]

This portion is a general overview of building your outfit. The game does it's best to suggest the best pieces and relics for a level, and you won't often have to think too hard about what piece you should use.

There are three steps to building your outfit:

Step One:[]

Determine your best clothing options in each category.

Always use the search function at the top of the screen and highlight the two style tags of the stage. If you've just unlocked a new book and don't have many pieces, filtering by story tag may not be helpful. Once you've completed the first chapter, filtering by story tag is more important.

Step Two:[]

Find the score and tags of your best options. It's best to ensure that if your only options match one style tag that the other is not a conflicting tag.

Conflicting Pairs
Simple Grand
Formal Charming
Cooling Warm
Elegant Perky
Noble Gentle

The following table shows the score multiplier you will get depending on how many tags match. The multiplier applies to the sum of the style tags:

Score Multiplier
Match Story tag Different Story Tag No story tag
Both Styles 1.22-1.25 0.15 1.22-1.25
One Style 0.30 0.035 0.24 - 0.30
No style 0.12 0.013 0.12

Notes:

  • At time of publishing this guide, none of the clothing without a tag perfectly match the styles of any stages
  • The Tag Special tag follows the "Different Story Tag" pattern
  • The multiplier for "No Story Tag" had a wider range when tested, but 0.24 seems to be more common
  • One conflicting Style tag halves the multiplier
  • If both tags conflict, then the multiplier is 0 and you earn no points at all

(Multipliers last updated Apr. 29, 2021, they are still being verified)

Therefore, if you're looking at items of the same rarity, the ranking is:

  1. Both style tags and the story tag matches.
  2. One style tag matches and the story tag matches.
  3. Both style tags match and the story tag does not match.
  4. One style tag matches and there is no story tag.
  5. One style tag matches and the story tag does not match or there are no matching styles and no story tag.
  6. The style tags do not match but the story tag does.
  7. There are not matching style tags and a non-matching story tag.

Some general tips:

  • The multipliers given are rounded, so the exact numbers will vary.
  • If you are debating between options 2, 3, and 4, look at the relic you want to use. Some will only give a bonus to one style tag, or give a bonus if you match items from the same set.
  • Never leave a clothing slot empty when trying to get a perfect score for the first time. Even if there are no matching tags, ten points is still ten points.

Step Three:[]

Examine your relics and apply their multipliers.

The game will often recommend the relic that matches both style tags, not the one that will get you the highest score. If you are in a stage with the tags Noble and Cooling, the game will probably recommend the Eagle Crest relic. However, this is a three star relic with a simple skill. The Cryolite Bracer has the style tags Cooling and Simple. Since it's skill is much better and players often focus on leveling four and five star relics, the Cryolite Bracer will probably be a much higher score boost.

Relics can be complicated to understand; they will be given their own explanation further in the guide.

Tip: If you are not spending any money on this game, I recommend not leveling up 3-star relics for a while once you have unlocked your second story. The 4 and 5 star relics have a lot more utility and better skills. Once your 4 star relics are all above level 10 and your 5 star relics are around level 20, then it may be worth investing in some 3 star relics.

As of the release of Helen of Sparta, Brave Blade is the only relic has a skill that is exclusive to the Fantasy Fair. If you want a Perky relic just for the Phantom Mirror, Kane is probably the best 3-star.

Basic Example[]

The following scenario is not going to factor in relics yet. Also, I will be using my clothing scores, which include fashion lab upgrades. Your clothing scores will probably be different.

I've recently started Magic Lamp and I'm not sure if my limited amount of Magic Lamp clothing is better than my wealth of Queen Marie or the free clothing with no tags.

The style tags are Grand and Charming, and the story tag is obviously Magic Lamp. My top choices for hair are:

  • Gentle Dreams - a 2-star hair that matches all three tags
  • Stage Presence - a 5-star Queen Marie hair that has both tags that most players should have from completing The Affair of the Necklace
  • Beautiful Beginning - a 4-star hair with no story tag that most players got as a reward during the games opening (one matching style tag)

My hair from Magic Lamp matches the tags, but it has a low score. So what is actually the best option? According to the multipliers:

Score Calculations
Item Tag 1 Tag 2 Total Score Multiplier Estimate
Gentle Dreams 246 246 492 1.22 600.24
Stage Presence 666 666 1332 0.15 199.8
Beautiful Beginning 476 476 952 0.24 228.48

According to the math, the low rarity item is the best. Let's test the actual score using a relic that should have no impact on the calculation (ie: Brave Blade):

Comparison
Item Estimate Actual Difference
Gentle Dreams 600 602 +2
Stage Presence 200 202 +2
Beautiful Beginning 228 232 +4

The estimates weren't exact, but they gave a very close score. I can clearly see that Gentle Dreams was the best choice.

The formula, for those who don't understand the tables, is: Score = (Style 1 + Style 2) * Multiplier

The formula is the same even if one or both of the style tags don't match.

Relics[]

This portion of the guide is meant to serve as an in-depth explanation of what relics are and how their skills work. For a list of all relics, please see the Relic Vault.

First, let's look at the the Relic tags. Of note, Relics do not have story tags. Use them freely between stories. Like clothing, Relics have style scores that directly contribute to the score of a stage. This is the score you see on the lower left corner of the screen on top of the relic card when the score is calculated.

The Relic multipliers are much simpler:

Relic Multiplier
Matches Multiplier %
Both Styles 1 100%
One Style 0.25 25%
No Style 0.1* 10%
  • Using a relic with an extremely low score can skew the 10% multiplier.

Relic Skills[]

Relic skills can be confusing to read. This portion of the guide is going to pick an example of each type of skill and explain the effect.

This is still a work in progress.

Add _% to the base score of clothing.

Add the specified percentage to the base score of the clothing regardless of tag.

  • This is a bit tricky to calculate since only 5* relics have this skill, and they have multiple abilities.

Add _% to the base score of Style1 and Style2 items.

Increase the total score by the specified percentage. This skill only applies to clothing with both of the style tags.

When wearing clothing that have Style1 or Style2 attributes, the base score for the corresponding tags increases by _%

Increase the tag that matches by the specified percentage. This is useful when your relic only matches one of the style tags of a stage or when you have a lot of clothing that doesn't match the stage.

When you have a relic that also has the increase to base score of items with both style tags, this skill does not stack. Only the skill that increases the base score of items with both tags will apply.

Base score for Style1 and Style2 items increase by _% each time _'s Goodwill increases by one level.

5-star relics have an interesting connection to their companions - they get better as Goodwill rises. By the time your companion has Goodwill at Level 10, the bonus is a whopping 30%. This skill only applies to clothing with both style tags.

Add _% to the base score of "Category" item.

The base score of a certain type of clothing increases. Please note that "Dresses" are not synonymous with "Tops" or "Bottoms"; Vittorio's skill only works when you're wearing a top instead of a dress, which severely lowers its use.

The score of items that do not match relic tags are still affected by the skill.

Initial testing shows values much lower than expected (10-15% lower). Either these relics are bugged or I am misunderstanding something.

Wear 3 items from the same clothing set, and the base score for Style1 and Style2 items will increase by _%

When you wear 3 items from the same clothing set, the base score for all items with both style tags will increase.

To be tested:[]

  • Do both tags have to be matched for an AND skill - initial testing implies half the bonus
  • Do the 3 items have to have certain style tags?
  • Double check that all clothing with both tags is increased
  • Check single item bonus relics

Cats[]

Cat Multipliers are the same as Relics:

Cat Multiplier
Matches Multiplier %
Both Styles 1 100%
One Style 0.25 25%
No Style 0.1* 10%

Tag conflicts still apply - reduction by half for one opposite tag and 0 points if both conflict.
