Letters[]

First Letter

Miss Colvin

Forgive me for this sudden letter.

I read your article on the Metropolitan Hospital. Your flair for writing and logical clarity shows you're a good reporter. As a prosecutor, I always pay attention to the veracity of the matter and its societal impact when reading such articles. It's a pity many reporters have disregarded this in favor of entertainment. You have managed to stay true to your convictions, and your future is bright.

I'm glad to have met you. Feel free to contact me if you need help.

Diane Boseman
Prosecutor

Second Letter

Colvin

I admire your determination to seek truth and justice. Such qualities are rare in New York. I am thankful to have met a young lady like you.

I apologize for our previous meeting, as it had to end abruptly due to my work. It is a pity that I could not speak more with an upstanding woman like you.

I hear you're attempting to uncover the truth on a case. Come to my office if you need my help.

Stay safe. Yours.

Diane Boseman

Third Letter

Dear Colvin

How have you been?

I've sent someone to investigate the incident you mentioned. We haven't found much yet, but it's clear this investigation will be a difficult one. I will hand any information we find to you. I trust you'll use it well, and bring the evil that lurks in the shadows to justice.

Fighting crime is not an easy journey, but I still remember how your article on the Metropolitan Hospital made me feel. It showed me that there's still light in humanity, and strengthened my belief that no matter who you are or where you're from, as long as the flames of justice burn bright in your heart, there is still hope.

I know we are merely scratching the surface, and greater evil lurks beneath. But I believe more people will join our ranks and help us fight for what we believe in.

Stay safe.

Boseman

Diane's Story[]

Disclaimer: The following section contains spoilers for Gotham Memoirs. Please proceed with caution.

The following segments detail Diane's story throughout Gotham Memoirs. This section is nothing but spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Before the Story

Diane was born in a family of lawyers in New York, whose ideals have shaped her views since childhood. She used to study at a Catholic school in Brooklyn, but left the area upon turning twelve, and did not return until some years later, when she was assisting her teacher with some cases in Brooklyn while in law school. By then, crime had ran rife in Brooklyn, which eventually drove her to become a prosecutor to eliminate crime.

While her methods have often been deemed extreme by the press, Diane upholds the belief that extreme times call for extreme measures, and will continue to eliminate crime in New York tirelessly and fearlessly.

Historical Trivia[]

  • Diane Boseman may have been based on Eunice Carter, one of New York's first female African-American lawyers, and one of the first prosecutors of color in the United States.
    • In 1935, Carter led a massive prostitution racketeering investigation, which eventually resulted in the successful prosecution of Mafioso kingpin Charles Luciano for forced prostitution in the following year.
    • It is possible that Juliano from the story was inspired by Luciano.
