Having their own job and income is what earns women respect and a place in society. Ah, I didn't mean to lecture you. I've just seen too many losing out in this aspect.

How are you? We've not met in a while because I've been so busy.
When you're not around, I often rest my head on the counter, watching the ice melt in my cup. Time passes every so slowly. The music and voices start to sound distant, and I start to wonder if I really exist.
I start thinking of my daughter, thinking about how smart, beautiful, and talented she would have become, just like you. Life is unpredictable, though. I'll never get to see her again. Christmas, for me, will only be a lonely, meaningless affair.
People tend to embrace loneliness as they get older, don't they, Chie? I can't seem to, though, and I'm getting more afraid. I chose to work in a noisy environment because the noise drowns out my thoughts, and stops me from overthinking at night. When those filthy things get drunk and sing with me, it gives me an illusion of having a family. It's a fleeting one, and when it passes, I'm left with emptiness and anguish. Am I beyond hope?
A long, long time ago, I once read a poem, or was it a haiku? I'm not too sure, but it goes:
"The world is but as transcient as dew, and yet, and yet..."
Do you know what it means? Reading it makes me feel grief and sorrow. If life is short, why did the heavens gift me with Aoi, then cruelly take her away? And yet, and yet... Sometimes I think, that if there was no beginning, there wouldn't be an end. If I hadn't married Yasuo, Aoi wouldn't have suffered, right?
I must not be in my right mind now, I sound ridiculous. Chie, please excuse me for rattling on.

Dear Chie
It's been a while since I wrote to you. I wasn't too sober the last time, and wrote some ridiculous things, I'm sorry. I can almost imagine that adorable look of confusion on your face when you read my letter which made no sense at all. It must have been awkward for you. How was I expecting you to reply to that?
So much has happened lately. You probably never expected that bringing Haruko home would cause so much trouble, but I believe that as long as Takashi, you and I work together, there's nothing we can't overcome.
Chie, work is important, but make sure you take care of your health and stay safe. You're no longer alone. Takashi and I worry about you, so please spare a thought for us, ha ha. Oh yes, there's Haruko who will cry too! Please don't break her heart. Don't overwork yourself! I don't know how else to help, but feel free to come over for a drink or a chat when you're stressed. You're always welcome.
You treat me like an older sister, but I don't feel like I deserve to be one. You're the one who is always there for me, even in my most helpless moments. When you left the police station the other day, I cried my heart out. Why would you believe someone like me, and stand on my side?
All right, I'll stop here in case I end up crying again. Once this is all over, let's visit Aoi together, I'm sure she would love to meet you.
