First Letter
Madame Petit,
If chance permits, I would love to have another chat with you! The morning you were staring intently at the leaves falling from the trees…. I wonder what was on your mind? Was it the arts, humanities, or simply the Seine's beauty in late autumn? You asked me why I didn't take any photos with my camera. Well the truth is, I forgot to remove the film after taking photos of you the other day. I have developed the photos last week so please allow me to mail them to you. Of course, if you're interested, you're always welcome to visit my darkroom. We can talk more about your questions on film development. You can even try out my new color developer. For the film's development, we can try other processes like cyanotype or copper photogravure. It's fun to engage in artistic activities with you, because you always think outside the box and push the boundaries of creativity. In my eyes, you're not just a curator of the future, but also an outstanding creator.
Respectfully,
Felix
Second Letter
Dear Madame Petit,
Thank you for inviting me to the Montmartre district. Whenever I discuss the arts with you, it never fails to leave me inspired. I thought about your question about the contradictions between classical art, academic art, contemporary art, and emerging art. My opinion is that there's no such thing as contradictions when it comes to art. They are merely of different fields. It's just like you said. In the history of humanities, the only constant is the development of a framework, and then breaking it down with new ideas. This is the process of complex change in human societies. Thoughts that seem contradictory at first glance collide and attach together to become new ideas. When those ideas grow to the size of a boulder, they become an unstoppable force. However, we are not Sisyphus rolling a boulder endlessly up a hill. As long as new propositions continue to emerge, contradictions presented by artists will propel us forward. It would be a sad day when we no longer care to argue or discuss anything new. When I look at you, I'm reminded that there are millions of you out there, fighting for the spiritual welfare of humanity. Aren't we fortunate to have survived these contradictions?
Sincerely,
Felix
Third Letter
Dear Anais,
I'm glad I no longer need to come up with a reason to write to you. You know how busy I've been with work, but I'll use this as a chance to distract myself. The constant need to think and act is a great source of encouragement, but there are still times when I feel tired out.
That day during our picnic, you made me lie down next to you, and I noticed the blue sky filled with passing clouds. I lowered my voice, and continued our discussion about the poignant romance of Dadaism. But all you whispered in response was: "The sky is so blue, Felix."
I could never forget how I felt at that moment. I was no longer considering the blue sky of Van Gogh, or the clouds of Monet, but the view before me. Lying there, I heard sounds that have never occurred to me before. I heard the rustling of leaves from nearby trees, the flowing of water in the distance, and the chirping of birds in the shadows. Yes, Anais, the sky is so blue... it should always be this blue!
If there's an opportunity, we should visit the port of Le Havre, and watch the sunrise together.
Yours,
Felix
