November 28th, Light rain
It's been awhile since I last thought in my journal.
If father had not put off his meeting to stay with me... It still might have been locked in the bottom of my drawer.

  • Mrs. Braun: I made your favourite steak, Miss. Please have some.

Mrs. Braun was on the other side of the door. I rolled over to reply.

  • Charlotte Harris: I am not hungry.

Mrs. Braun did not leave until the clock chimed. I heard her footsteps retreat slowly. I had left the flight School two weeks before and I still had no appetite.

I pulled the duvet over my head, and fell into a silent and dreary darkness. In a state of half asleep, address and I was back at Gotham Flight School. I was stuck in a lonely past I was trying so hard to escape. I didn't know how much time had passed before there was a Knock at the door, rousing me from my ennui.

I stuck my head out of the duvet and fresh oxygen hit my lungs, making me feel better.

  • Mrs. Braun: Miss?

Due to my unresponsiveness, Mrs. Braun knocked again with the help of concern in her voice.

  • Charlotte Harris: Come in.

I set up and realised it was already midday. Brown handed me a cup of hot milk. She sat by the bed and patted my head.

  • Mrs. Braun: Mr Harris will be back soon, Miss. He'll worry if he sees you like this.

I wanted to put the milk on the bedside table, but Mrs Browns words made me hesitate.

  • Charlotte Harris: I thought he had a meeting? How does he...?

  • Mrs. Braun: You know the answer, Miss.

I stop stroking the rim of the cup. I tilt my head back and down the milk.

  • Mrs. Braun: Would you like another cup?

  • Charlotte Harris: No need. Please prepare branch, Mrs. Braun.

I smiled as naturally as I could at Mrs. Braun.

  • Mrs. Braun: Of course. How about some fried bacon with grilled toast?

  • Charlotte Harris: That sounds delicious, Mrs. Braun.

I stop smiling after Mrs. Braun left. I was the last leaf fall from the old tree. I still had no appetite, but I needed to look well.
(Father put off of important meetings to see me. I can't let him worry anymore.)

  • Charlotte Harris: Dad.

I stepped into the hallway father's sat on the couch smoking a Cigar. He stood up and hugged me.

  • Steven Harris: A gift for you, charlotte. I know you will like it.

Father handed me A beautifully wrapped box. He smiled brightly, but I Caught a fleeting look of hearted in his eyes. I felt a little guilty as I opened the bag and dropped the gold foil wrapped chocolate.

  • Steven Harris: It's from Switzerland. Do you like it?

  • Charlotte Harris: (When I was a child, Dad comforted me with chocolate when I cried. As if eating chocolate could make me forget all my troubles...)

I used to think chocolate was the sweetest magic in the world. Then I learnt there was no magic in the world.

  • Steven Harris: You have done a great job, Charlotte. It's not your fault.

Father pulled me closer and patted me on the back. I buried my head in my father's arms to conceal my sobs.

  • Steven Harris: It's okay, it's okay...

April 7th, Sunny
This is the longest time my father has stayed at home that I can remember. He postponed everything to be with me. He took out my awards, reminisced with me about those moments of Glory, and drove me everywhere I wanted to go. He tried his best to pull me out of the abyss I was.

  • Steven Harris: Cut this stem, Charlotte.

  • Charlotte Harris: But it's a big stem. Won't it hurt the plant?

  • Steven Harris: Maybe, but this stem is to tender, and Roses won't bloom. If we cut it off, maybe the pain will make it Bloom better.

My father stood in the garden against the sun. He smiled encouragingly. I felt a wave of relief I hadn't felt in a long time.

  • Charlotte Harris: You are right, Dad.

I cut the stem and sighed. I put the scissors down and went back to my room. I noticed that the old tree was in bloom.

  • Charlotte Harris: (When did this happen? Its leaves had all fallen.)

That's when I realized six months had passed since I had banged the drum.

  • Charlotte Harris: What have I been doing all this time?

I chuckled and looked up at the blue sky with its thin clouds.

  • Charlotte Harris: (It's time to let go.)

April 10th, Sunny
Father gave me the courage to face the past, and when I walked out of the way and looked back, I realized I was the abyss.

  • Charlotte Harris: I want to go for a walk, Dad. Will you join me?

  • Steven Harris: I actually wanted to take you somewhere. This is the perfect opportunity.

  • Charlotte Harris: Oh? Where?

  • Steven Harris: You'll know when you get there. I'm sure you'll like this surprise.

As the ride progressed, the scenery look more and more familiar.

  • Charlotte Harris: Dad... Are you taking me to the airport?

  • Steven Harris: There's a bigger surprise. Enjoy the ride.

Father was proud as he crossed his legs and smoke his cigar. I was dumbfounded. The car soon pulls into the airport. The plane brought back the better feeling of regret... And an irrepressible yearning.

  • Charlotte Harris: (If I was a boy, I would have been sitting next to the captain as his co-pilot.)

I smiled bitterly and shook my head to come back to reality. My father and I watch plane after plane pass overhead. It didn't take me long to realize that hadn't been a flying show. Dad look like he was waiting for something.

  • Charlotte Harris: Did you bring me here to see these planes?

  • Steven Harris: You will see in a moment.

Father looked laid-back. I continue watching the planes in the sky.

  • Charlotte Harris: (I am jealous. I want to be there.)

A plane landed on the Runway when father finished his cigar. He stood up and just said for me to follow. I was suspicious as he walked to the plane. The engines stop the rumbling, the cockpit opened, and a silver haired man stepped out.

I couldn't believe my eyes. I looked at my father for confirmation and he laughed.

  • Steven Harris: How about it, charlotte. Do you like your surprise?

  • Charlotte Harris: Am I dreaming? I can't believe the Colonel is here!

I hugged my father and jumped up and down like a child. Colonel Armstrong stood by smiling. I realize it was rude to keep my idol standing there, so I ran to him.

  • Charlotte Harris: Sorry, Colonel, I got carried away. I never thought I'd ever meet you in person.

  • Armstrong: Hahaha, it's okay. I am glad to meet you too. Would you like to go for a ride with me?

  • Charlotte Harris: Do you mean...?

  • Armstrong: If I may, I'd like to invite you onto my plane.

  • Charlotte Harris: (I can't believe the Colonel just invited me to fly with him? Am I dreaming?)

That moment is still indescribable. I was completely surprised. But I was also afraid of what I would feel when I was up in the air again.

  • Charlotte Harris: I...

Sensing my hesitation, Dad put a pair of warm, heavy hands on my shoulders to chase away my doubt.

  • Steven Harris: It's okay, Charlotte. The Colonel will take care of you. You don't have to think about anything, and you don't have to do anything. Just relax and enjoy the flight, like you did the first time you flew.

I looked into my father's gentle Eyes. Magic existed.

  • Charlotte Harris: Thank you, dad. I would like to fly with the Colonel... Up into the blue sky.
