  • Things haven't gone as smoothly as I hoped they would.
  • I've been on the Iron Wyvern for over 20 days, but I haven't found a single clue about my father.
  • You: (No one on the ship knew my father.)
  • You: (The person who lured me here called themselves "L".)
  • You: (I have no idea who they are or if they're even on the ship.)
  • You: (Does L have an ulterior motive for getting me on the Iron Wyvern?)
  • Something heavy falls to the floor, startling me.
  • I was so absorbed with my thoughts that I dropped my detector.
  • You: (I have to stop moping.)
  • You: (This voyage will take at least another two months. That's more than enough time to conduct my investigation.)
  • You: (I should change into a warm outfit to investigate the iceberg.)
  • You: Sorry to keep you waiting.
  • Neil: It's fine, I just got here too.
  • You: Let's go.
  • Neil: Kelly, wait.
  • Neil grabs my hand. His fingers feel cold on my palm.
  • He places a small, round item in my hand and lets go before I can even react.
  • You: Chocolate?
  • Neil: You didn't look so good after you came out from your room.
  • Neil: You're still thinking about the accident with the iceberg, aren't you? That wasn't your fault.
  • Neil: Have some chocolate and cheer up, okay?
  • Neil's words catch me off guard.
  • He doesn't know what's really on my mind, but his gesture warms my heart.
  • You: Thank you, Neil.
  • Waking side by side, we leave the cabin and hurry to the deck.
  • When we arrive on deck, the huge iceberg at the bow catches my eye.
  • You: (I can't believe such a huge iceberg appeared out of nowhere...)
  • The sky has darkened, but the iceberg has retained its grayish glow, like it's illuminated from within.
  • After sailing for over 20 days, the Iron Wyvern is now in unchartered waters in the far north.
  • The Iron Wyvern is a state-of-the-art icebreaker powered by nuclear energy. It can break up virtually any ice it comes across.
  • You: (How long has the ice been here? Thousands of years? Maybe more?)
  • You: (Who knows what secrets the ice holds frozen within?)
  • Neil's voice snaps me out of my thoughts.
  • You: Huh?
  • Neil: You were in a daze. What's going on?
  • You: I'm just wondering if this ice is going to be a Pandora's box.
  • You: Will we unknowingly release something hidden within?
  • You: Something that froze a long time ago.
  • Neil: ...
  • Neil doesn't reply and just stares at me.
  • As I watch his smile fade, I'm uncertain if he's considering what I just said or brushing it off as an absurd fantasy.
  • You: Sorry, I just like to daydream.
  • You: Let's get on the iceberg.
  • We climb up a rope ladder to get onto the iceberg. The ice reflects the sunlight. It's almost blinding.
  • Neil: Watch your step, Kelly.
  • Neil: I'll get to work. Talk to me over the radio if you need any help.
  • Neil turns away and leaves.
  • You: (Neil's acting strange after what I said.)
  • You: (Maybe he's just focused on work...)
  • You: (Speaking of which, I should start my work too.)
  • I inspect the iceberg with my equipment.
  • For an icebreaker like the Iron Wyvern, it's easier to smash through an iceberg than detour around it.
  • You: (The Iron Wyvern can break most icebergs, provided the iceberg is of a reasonable size.)
  • I set everything up and gather the necessary data.
  • You: (Today's technology has made things so convenient.)
  • You: (No issues here. We can head back to the ship and report to the Captain.)
  • I pick up my detector and head off to look for Neil.
  • I spot him leaning over to observe the iceberg.
  • You: I'm done on my side, Neil. How about you?
  • Neil: Kelly, look here... Looks like the thinnest section of the ice.
  • Neil: There's something odd about the ice, but I can't get a clear look.
  • I stand next to Neil and notice something unusual beneath my feet. Something large and dark is encased in the ice.
  • You: Is that a rock? Was it carried here by the iceberg?
  • You: I didn't get any abnormal readings from my detector... Hang on, let me check the density here.
  • The detector churns out the value after I tap on it.
  • According to these readings, it's not a rock.
  • Based on the color, it could also be something made of wood. How did it end up in there?
  • Neil: We need to figure out how to get it out.
  • You: Hmm...we don't have any tools that could chisel it out.
  • You: The iceberg's values are normal. Let's get the Iron Wyvern to break it up first.
  • You: If the helmsman maneuvers the ship well, the strange object may remain intact.
  • You: (But there's a chance it'll crumble with the iceberg.)
  • I'm really curious about the object in the ice, but getting the Iron Wyvern back on course is what's most important now.
  • You: Come on, Neil. Let's go back to the ship.
  • Neil doesn't reply. He's staring silently at the ice under his feet.
  • He looks up just as I'm about the question him.
  • Neil: Yeah, let's go.
  • Neil: Thanks for your hard work, Kelly.
  • Neil flashes me a gentle smile, erasing all gloom from his face.
  • I'm puzzled by his sudden shift in mood, but I don't dwell on it.
  • You: Don't mention it.
  • Making use of the rope ladder once more, Neil and I climb back onto the Iron Wyvern. Freddy's standing at the bow with his hands behind his back, glazing thoughtfully at the iceberg.
  • You: Captain, the iceberg's values are normal. The Iron Wyvern won't have any problems breaking through.
  • You: But we discovered something strange in the ice. It might be worth examining...
  • Freddy: What is it?
  • You: We couldn't see it clearly, but it looks like it's made of wood-
  • Freddy: Something made of wood is in the iceberg? That's ridiculous!
  • You: I thought it was weird too...
  • Freddy: I'll tell the helmsman to keep and eye out. You two, head back to the cabin.
  • The ship will shake violently when it starts breaking the iceberg. Staying on the deck is a sure way to get hurt.
  • You: Aye, Captain.
  • The Iron Wyvern surges to full power and rams its sturdy bow into the ice.
  • After a muffled blast, I look through the window and watch pieces of the iceberg drift by. Each fragment is like a piece of broken crystal with a pure blue center.
  • Then the Iron Wyvern stops moving. I wait for a while, expecting the ship to continue forward, but it doesn't.
  • You: (Is the strange object impeding the ship's process?)
  • You: (I'd better go up and take a look.)
  • When I arrive on the deck, the sailors are pointing at something below the bow.
  • Freddy's is standing in front of the rest. He's staring down at the ocean with his hands behind his back and a frown on his face.
  • Sailor: What's that?!
  • I follow Freddy as he walks briskly toward the bow.
  • We see a large wooden box bobbing in the water.
  • Almost everyone is now on deck speculating about the curious item.
  • Whitney: Goodness, it's a wooden box!
  • Whitney, the elderly professor walks over slowly.
  • Whitney: I reckon it's an antique.
  • Whitney: It's engraved, but I can't see it clearly from this distance. Are we going to haul it up?
  • Freddy stares at the wooden box.
  • Freddy: How could mere box block our path?
  • Freddy: The Iron Wyvern has no problem smashing icebergs, but what we hit just now didn't even budge!
  • Everyone falls silent, unable to understand how this box could even exist.
  • Neil breaks the silence.
  • Neil: I think we should bring it up.
  • Neil: If an object that size can stop the Iron Wyvern from sailing foreword, it demands further investigation.
  • You: (Did the box really withstand the impact from the Iron Wyvern...?)
  • Neil: Besides, the box might contain treasure. Even if there's nothing inside, the box itself could be a great archaeological find.
  • Neil: The Iron Wyvern will be famous for bringing it to the Archaeological Institute.
  • Freddy is assured by Neil's words.
  • Freddy: Bring it up with the crane!
  • The sailors spring into action. Using rope ladders, some of them climb down the side of the ship. They soon secure a grappling hook onto the object.
  • Bubbles rise to the surface of the sea as the crane pulls the box up. To our surprise, we find another odd-shaped object underneath the wooden box.
  • Sailor: It looks like an old boat?
  • We hold our breath as the strange finds are hauled onto the deck.
