??? : You Royal Highness, please get up. If you don't get changed now, we'll be late for the feast.
You: (Your Royal Highness? Is she talking to me?)
(The maidens practically pull me out of bed, quickly bathing and dressing me.)
You: (I'm in the book once again. Memories start to flood in.) (I'm Helen, daughter of the King of Sparta. Today is my 16th birthday. My parents arranged a birthday feast.)
(The feast will be held in the temple on the mountain, some way from the palace. As the maidens are putting on the final touches, the chamberlain enters and tells me to hurry.)
You: I'll be there in a moment. (I hope things go smoothly.)
(Sparta is holding a grand feast in the temple. I am the princess, and it is my birthday today.)
King: How time flies. My daughter is all grown up.
Queen Leda: Praise the gods for that. Go on, Helena.
(I stand before the priestess, Cassandra, who is waiting for me at the altar.)
Cassandra: Over here, your Royal Highness.
(I make sure to keep my smile as I walk towards her, amidst a hail of cheers.)
You: I'm ready, Casandra.
(She nods, and begins chanting a prayer. She raises her right hand, and moves to place it on my head. BOOOOOM There is a loud explosion, and everyone screams in alarm.)
King: What was that? Guards!
(Before the guards could respond, smoke starts billowing from the temple. and the mountain is ablaze.)
Queen Leda: Guards, protect the princess! Get her out of here!
(Mother's voice is drowned out by the crackling wood and the many screams.)
You: Father! *koff* Mother! Where are you?!
(I'm coughing and tearing from the smoke, unable to see anything. I cover my nose and mouth, trying to find a way to escape. Screaming, howling, scattered footsteps, and the loud crack of beams falling.)
??? : Helen! Helen!
You: (That's Achilles! Is he here to save me?)
(I rush towards the voice, waving my arms frantically)
Achilles: Is that you, Helen? Come to me!
(Achilles is my trusted bodyguard. I push myself forward, holding my breath and trying not to stumble.)
(I run out of the temple. The smoke clears, and I finally manage to take a breath.)
You: Achilles, where are you!
(I see him in the distance. As I turn to run towards him, I trip on something.)
You: (Ouch...Eh, what's this?)
(I realize I tripped on a man lying on the ground.)
Achilles: There you are! Give me your hand!
(Achiles pulls me up. He grips my wrist tightly, and starts to lead me away)
You: Wait! We can't just leave him here.
Achilles: Who?
(Noticing the man on the ground, Achilles kneels down and pushes his golden locks aside to check if the man is still breathing.)
Achilles: He's just passed out. Let's go!
You: Achilles! If we leave him here, he'll die!
Achilles: Gods give me strenght...Alright, fine!
(Achilles lifts the man and throws him roughly over his shoulder, carrying him like a hunting trophy.)
Achilles: Stay close, Helen.
(The guards have cleared the path from the temple. I follow Achilles to the base of the mountain. Along the way, many people stop and greet me. I don't know how they recognize me with all this soot on my face.)
(It's noon when I finally return to the palace. The moment I walk into my room, Mother rushes over with a worried look on her face.)
Queen Leda: Helen! Are you alright? Are you hurt?
You: I'm fine, Achilles saved me. We brought someone back with us too.
(I tell Mother what happened. She asks the servants to put that main in a room. Just then, the chamberlain walks in and whispers in Mother's ear.)
Queen Leda: I understand, thank you.
(After the chamberlain leaves, Mother tells me they've just found Casandra, and everyone is now accounted for. Cassandra was trapped deep within the temple, thank the gods they found her.)
You: Is Casandra hurt?
Qeen Leda: No, but she keeps mumbling nonsense. She must be in shock.
(Casandra has been the priestess since I was a child, and she has always been good to me.)
You: Mother, I want to visit her.
Queen Leda: You can do that tomorrow. Look at you, you're filthy.
(She's right, I have soot all over me, and my hair is a mess.)
You: Let me get changed.
(I've just finished changing when I hear two people arguing outside. I can't resist taking a peek.)
Achilles: You, stranger! Stay in your room! There are rules here!
??? : Sorry, that's not my name. Ah, there's an adorable lady over there. There's no way I can just leave now.
Achilles: Stay away from here! I'm talking to you, stranger!
??? : I wake up finding myself in the strange place. With a large swine growling at me to stay in the room. How am I the stranger?
Achilles: Who are you calling swine? Look at you, with locks that long, you could be a woman.
??? : Isn't it rude of you to speak to a guest like this? Take it back, or prepare to pay the price.
Achilles: Come on, then! You going to tickle me to death with you hair?
You: Enough, quit arguing. Achilles, I heard they just found Cassandra. Please help me see how she's doing. I'll talk to our guest here.
(I yank Achilles by the wirst, motioning him to leave. Achilles is reluctant, but I pull him away forcefully. I don't want him to get into a fight with this man.)
Achilles: Listen, if you do anything funny, I'll throw you out immediately.
(I finally manage to persuade Achilles to leave. When I return, the man is still standing there.)
??? : Although I want to know where I am, this is better than.. What's your name, my dear lady?
You:...Helen.
Apollo: What a beautiful name. I am Apollo.
You: Apollo? The name of the god Phoebus?
Apollo: I think I'm more interesting than those dullards on Olympus.
You: (What a strange man. I should find out more about him.)
A - Who are you?
Apollo: I am but a humble musician, traveling from one place to another, playing my lyre to earn my keep.)
(Apollo's features are immaculate, he looks as beautiful as a god.)
You: (If he really is a traveling musician, it won't matter if he plays like a chicken. Word of his good looks would surely have made its way to the palace.)
Apollo: You don't believe me? Bring me a lyre then, I'll prove it to you. I will sing you a most beautiful song, as befits your comely face and melodious name.
You:...It's okay, thank you.
(Looks like I won't be able to get anything out of him. Thankfully, he doesn't look like a threat. I tell him how we brought him back from the temple, and mention he can leave anytime he wishes.)
Apollo: Your beauty is like a wisteria, enthralling me in my tracks. Sadly you don't know it...
You: You can stay a little longer. But there's something we should talk about.
Apollo: Oh? What is it, my muse?
You: (What a chamer....?) Apollo, can you not speak in that tone?
??? : Bah...
(A gentle laugh comes from behind me. Sounds like a girl..)
You: Who there?
Apollo: Come on out, my sister.
