I have no interest in searching for the reason, whatever it might be. More importantly, I hope you can mind your own business, and just get on with your life. Don't you think that's the best for you, me, and Xiaojing?
You don't have to be so guarded around me. I've never liked poking my nose into others' businesses, and I'm only writing this letter to tell you to stop meddling in my affairs.
You're an intelligent person. I believe you understand what I'm trying to say, and that you will be able to do it.

You are young, and haven't experienced much of the world. That's why you can live so innocently and arrogantly, and I can forgive you for it.
However, there are many things in this world that aren't as simple as they seem to be. There are also many people you cannot risk provoking, despite what you think.
Stay away from the Commander's residence. This is my final warning. Be it good or bad, it's none of your business.
Just enjoy your life, and stop meddling in my affairs. Otherwise, I'll make you witness something you wouldn't want to see.
Anything can happen in this chaotic world. The best rule for survival is to ignore the well-being of others, and to just take care of your own.

You are a really good person.
I've met thousands of humans over the past two centuries since I was born, and you are unique, just like he was.
Stubborn yet forgiving, you show pity to others without overdoing it, and you know your limits even while marching to the beat of your own drum. I'm glad you're the one who has stayed by Xiaojin's side.
I wonder if I would have turned out differently if I had met you earlier.
However, there's no turning back in life. Mr. Pei is right; having a long life is both a blessing and a curse. It is hard for us to conclude a relationship, and to leave it all behind. As such, we often end up as pitiful existences in this world.
Although I've managed to put my past behind me, there are still many things I don't understand. I must admit, there are times where I'm envious of Xiaojing being so happy over a bowl of wontons. Regardless, I swear to appreciate the beauty of this world from now on.
Be it for Xiaojing or your sake, I want to return to who I was at the very beginning, because it's an amazing thing to be alive.

May Your Days be Filled with Flowers
Miss Gu, I received the flowers you sent me. I imagine you must have gone to a lot of trouble to pick them. But these are just ordinary flowers, really. It's not worth all the effort. I wonder why humans always go to so much trouble to please others. That person used to do all sorts of silly things to make me happy, like picking flowers off cliffs, waiting in long lines at old pastry shops in Jiangnan, and shipping over preserved seafood from the seaside.
By the way, I haven't told you this yet, but I've been remembering bits and pieces of the past. However, the image of that person in my mind is always fuzzy. I can't remember his face or any complete events, just these fleeting moments. I feel nothing now—no love, no hate, no joy, no sorrow. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing. Fa Ming says that I have let go of my attachments and am now reborn, no longer needing to dwell on past lives.
Believe it or not, I wasn't trying to remember. I just know that there was a time when, every morning I woke up, there would be a bouquet of flowers in the blue and white porcelain vase by the window, picked by that person at some point.
Regardless, thank you for reminding me of that time. I hope you, Miss Gu, can enjoy flowers every day and have many happy days.

- Despite having the surname Huo in her name, Huo Lan's name is simply written as "Lan" in Simplified Chinese (阿蓝 Ā lán) and Traditional Chinese (阿藍 Ā lán).
- Her adopted surname, Huo (霍 huò), can be used to describe the quality of being swift. Originally, it was used to describe the sound of a bird flying fast.
- "阿" does not have any special meaning in names, and is instead used as a prefix to create a diminutive name; a shortened version of a name to express intimacy and familiarity (i.e. a nickname). "蓝" means "blue".
- Xiaojing and Huo Lan are the only Companions in game to share a single Relic.
- Huo Lan is close to 200 years of age in the story.
- Unlike her sister Xiaojing, despite having the appearance of an eight-year old, Huo Lan's personality is much more mature.
- Huo Lan likes osmanthus cakes from Zhi Wei Pastries.
- According to the author of Ancient Dreams, despite having expressed her dislike for him always talking about righteousness, Huo Lan loves Huo Yang for this very righteousness.
