  • You: (I didn't cancel the engagement on my first visit to the Duke's residence because I wanted to test Olive.)
  • You: (Now that I know that Olive and the Duke are one and the same...)
  • You: (There's no need for this marriage to take place.)
  • You: Olive, about the marriage...
  • Duke Cyrus: Dahlia, I have a request to make.
  • We both start talking at the same time.
  • I suddenly recall something Olive said to me earlier.
  • She said that she wanted to make a falsehood become reality.
  • Her words keep reverberating in my mind. I don't have the courage to look at her.
  • You: You go first.
  • You: You're Duke Cyrus, though. I don't know what I could do to help you.
  • Duke Cyrus: You're the only one who can help me with this, Dahlia.
  • Duke Cyrus: I'd like us to proceed with our wedding.
  • You: What?!
  • You: We've already come clean with each other! How can you think you can still use me as a pawn to cover up your true identity?
  • Duke Cyrus: It wouldn't be like that, Dahlia.
  • Duke Cyrus: You know who I really am now. I won't keep any secrets from you this time.
  • Duke Cyrus: I hid my identity and pretended to be Duke Cyrus. However, I caught Prince Victor's attention by remaining unmarried for so long. So I had to begin searching for a wife.
  • Duke Cyrus: I deliberately looked for a woman from an impoverished aristocratic family with no hopes of regaining their former glory. Someone who wouldn't be able to blackmail me.
  • Duke Cyrus: Someone who couldn't act against me, even if she somehow discovered my true identity.
  • Unfortunately, Olive is describing the reality of life for many women in the Tara Kingdom.
  • If a woman marries a bad husband and has no support from her family, she's powerless.
  • My two older sisters, who will never be able to return home, are prime examples of this.
  • You: (The same fate awaits me if I chose to be meek and submissive to the Duke.)
  • You: Should I be praising you for coming up with such a brilliant plan?
  • Duke Cyrus: It was a brilliant plan, but I made one mistake. I underestimated you.
  • Olive looks at me with glowing admiration, but I feel a chill down my spine. Even now, I wonder if she's trying to manipulate me.
  • She is a shrewd, calculative politician when she's acting as Duke Cyrus.
  • You: (Should I agree to go ahead with our marriage?)

Agree

  • You: (When I first met Olive, I was amazed by how daring and energetic she was. She was ambitious enough to forge her own future.)
  • Now, as Duke Cyrus, she wishes to make a difference, to do her part to change the terrible state of the current situation.
  • However, she can't stand against such powerful forces and systems alone. So she's had to find more discreet ways to pursue her aims.
  • You: (She's so determined and passionate... that's why I've always been drawn to her.)
  • Her path has been a lonely one. For the past 26 years of her life, she hasn't had a single companion who truly knows who she is.
  • I close my eyes and listen to my heart. What I want the most is—
  • You: (I want to help her.)
  • I open my eyes, feeling an intense determination I've never had before.
  • You: I agree to your request.
  • You: I will be your wife.
  • Olive's eyes quiver.
  • Duke Cyrus: Dahlia, you have no idea how happy you've made me.
  • Duke Cyrus: Having your companionship on this lonely journey is the best gift I've ever received from the gods.
  • You: No, this wasn't bestowed by the gods.
  • You: You fought for it and won it through your own efforts, Olive.

Disagree

  • You: No, Olive, I can't agree to your request.

Refuse the wedding (If 2-2 was played)
  • You: We met in Sierce, and we've seen the truest version of each other while on our travels.
  • You: I envied how free you seemed to be as a travelling merchant.
  • You: But the whole time, you envied how I could live a normal life as who I am.
  • Duke Cyrus: Dahlia...
  • I rest one finger on Olive's lips, preventing her from speaking another word.
  • You: Listen to what I have to say, Olive.
  • You: Asking me to be your wife is akin to stripping my freedom away from me.
  • You: You'd be taking what I most desire away from me.
  • You: If you truly see me as an irreplaceable friend, and not just a pawn you can use for your own aims...
  • You: ... then you'll understand why I can't give up my freedom. Not for anyone, and not for you.
  • Duke Cyrus: Dahlia, this would only be a marriage in name. I wouldn't ask you to carry out a duchess' duties.
  • Duke Cyrus: Even though we'd be married, you'd still be free to do whatever you want.
  • You: I'm not stupid, Olive.
  • You: You haven't spoken a word about the dangers of being in a position of power. However, I can imagine the troubles that await me.
  • You: Even if you don't restrict my freedom, someone else will.
  • You: It could be Mr. Walter, Prince Victor, or even the King himself.
  • The pleading look on Olive's face vanishes.
  • You: Even if I keep to myself and don't cause any trouble, danger will come knocking as long as I remain in power.
  • You: I'm sorry. Olive. I can't live as someone I'm not.

  • Duke Olive: Is that your final answer, Dahlia?
  • You: Yes.
  • Duke Olive: Don't you know you lost all chance of washing your hands of this matter the moment you discovered my true identity?
  • You: I know. That's why I'm going to leave the Tara Kingdom.
  • Duke Olive: You're going to leave the kingdom?
  • You: It'll make things easier for both of us.
  • You: I think I'll take a leaf out of your book and try the life of a travelling merchant for a while.
  • You: There are many places in this world I haven't explored yet.
  • Duke Cyrus: Yes, and many of them are dangerous, Dahlia.
  • You: Don't worry. Aaron and Winni will come with me. And I'm sure Martha would like to tag along whenever she can.
  • Duke Cyrus: So you'd rather live in exile with half-beasts than help me.
  • You: Those half-beasts are my friends. And now I see that you're not.
  • Duke Cyrus: Fine. This would be the decision you'd make.
  • Olive remains silent for a long while, her back to me.
  • The sunlight filtering through the window silhouettes her with glaring light while shrouding her features in shadow.
  • Duke Cyrus: Leave.
  • Duke Cyrus: I won't go easy on you if I see you in the Tara Kingdom again.
  • She leaves without any sign of regret. But I know that this is the greatest concession she could make.
  • In the beginning, she only saw me as a tool to help her hide her identity. She would have disposed of me given half the chance.
  • Yet now, even though I know her biggest secret, she's willing to let me go.
  • You: Olive... Remember when you told me your three wishes? I'll always remember that your third wish was to reveal your true identity as a woman.
  • You: I'll never give up hoping you'll achieve your dream.
  • You: And if that day ever comes, I'd like for us to be as close as sisters again.
  • Olive pauses, but doesn't turn back. She leaves in a hurry.
  • She's Duke Cyrus again when she walks out of the room. But I know that somewhere deep down there, she's still Olive.
  • You: (I won't compromise myself to help her. But I hope that someday, all her dreams will come true.)
Obtained Ending: Strangers

Become soft-hearted. Reconsider for a few days (If 2-3 was played)
  • Duke Cyrus: Not even if it's only a marriage in name?
  • Duke Cyrus: I wouldn't ask you to carry out a duchess' duties. As long as you stay hidden from our enemies, you'd be free to do whatever you want.
  • Duke Cyrus: Once we're married, my political enemies won't pay any attention to you.
  • You: Perhaps, but I don't want to hide who I am from anyone. Just like you wouldn't, if you had the choice.
  • You: You can't truly believe I could escape notice if I became your wife.
  • You: As a duchess, whether or not I carried out a duchess' duties is immaterial. It would be who I am.
  • You: And even if you didn't attempt [to] restrict my freedom, someone else would.
  • You: It could be Mr. Walter, Prince Victor, or even the King himself.
  • You: I feel breathless just thinking about it.
  • Duke Cyrus: You've given me your answer and I respect your decision, Dahlia. I won't force you into this marriage if you're not willing to go with it.
  • Duke Cyrus: After all, you're my only friend.
  • Duke Cyrus: However, with Prince Victor already on his way to Leto, we can't cancel the engagement for the time being.
  • Duke Cyrus: Don't worry, though. I will find a reason to postpone the wedding for now, and we won't go through with it.
  • Olive sounds like she's sincerely looking out for me.
  • But she looks pale, and I can't help but notice how thin and vulnerable she looks dressed in the broad regalia of a duke.
  • You: (She's having to go to all this trouble on my account... What if I helped her out instead by agreeing to her request?)
  • I am taken aback by my own thoughts.
  • You: (How could I willingly sacrifice my freedom for her?)
  • Duke Cyrus: I will find a way to annul this engagement peacefully while ensuring your safety.
  • Olive stands up to leave.
  • As she turns away from me, I decide to follow my heart and call out to her.
  • You: Olive, wait.
  • Duke Cyrus: What is it, Dahlia?
  • You: Your request... I will give it more thought.
  • Her eyes light up, and her voice becomes more hopeful in an instant.
  • Duke Cyrus: Thank you, Dahlia. Even knowing that means the world to me.

  • There has been big news in the duchy these past few days.
  • Prince Victor will be arriving in ten days, and he'll be staying at the Duke's residence.
  • You: (According to Martha, Prince Victor came just to attend my wedding with the Duke.)
  • Feeling uneasy, I head to the Duke's residence to find Olive.
  • News of the Prince's visit has obviously reached the Duke's residence. The butler and servants scurry about as they transform the residence in preparation for his arrival.
  • My heart sinks as I watch the vigor with which everyone tackles their roles.
  • You: (Prince Victor has a very good reputation among the people, and is well loved.)
  • You: (He also has the King's favor.)
  • You: (I wonder how formidable he'll be if he really turns out to be Olive's enemy.)

  • Duke Cyrus: Why have you come, Dahlia? Is it because of Prince Victor's visit?
  • You: That's right. I'm worried.
  • You: You said you were attacked by Prince Victor's men. Do you have any other evidence besides those arrowheads?
  • Duke Cyrus: Yes. I've found new evidence that my assailants in the Northern Mountains were definitely sent by Prince Victor.
  • Duke Cyrus: However, it's still not enough to make a convincing case before the King.
  • Duke Cyrus: We have to wait for the right time to make our move.
  • There are dark shadows under Olive's eyes. She looks exhausted, without a trace of the energy she had just a few days ago.
  • You: Is there any way I can help?
  • Duke Cyrus: I know you weren't planning on moving into the Duke's official residence until after the wedding. But I think it would help allay some suspicion if you moved in now.
  • You: It'll give people something to talk about, at least.
  • You: All right. I'll do it.

  • After agreeing to move in early to the Duke's residence, I know I have to find a way to explain this to Aaron and Winni.
  • However, the Duke's attendants arrive before I can think of a proper explanation. My intentions to leave are exposed when they start packing my belongings.
  • Winni: Miss Dahlia! Why are these mean people taking your things away?
  • Winni: They said you were going to be living somewhere else. They're lying, aren't they?
  • Tears run down Winni's cheeks. It pains me to see her like this, and I feel myself tearing up too.
  • You: Winni, I can explain—
  • Aaron: What is there to explain?
  • Aaron: Unless you're going to tell us why you suddenly decided to marry the Duke and become his wife?
  • Aaron: Or perhaps you're going to tell us how we are no longer important to you, now that you've found a new family?
  • You: That's not it, Aaron...
  • But when I see Winni's hurt expression and Aaron's tightly clenched fists, I know nothing I say could help.
  • You: (I should have considered the consequences before agreeing to Olive's request...)
  • I knew that Aaron and Winni would be shocked at my decision to move into the Duke's residence. However, I didn't expect them to be this upset.
  • You: (I can't even tell them that this is just a temporary ploy, because I can't risk exposing Olive's identity.)
  • Winni: You're a liar, Miss Dahlia! You said that a family would never be apart!
  • Winni's crying grows louder. I try my best to console her, but to no avail.
  • Aaron watches but doesn't say a word. He just stares at me coldly.
  • Winni cries for a long time before falling asleep from exhaustion.
  • I finally have a moment to talk to Aaron. However, when I look up, there's no sign of him anywhere.
  • You: (Where would he have gone?)

The tailor shop

  • You: (The most obvious place for him to have gone is Fort Hawke.)
  • I prepare to head to Fort Hawke. However, I keep recalling the smile on Aaron's face that day when he was at the tailor shop.
  • I decide to listen to my heart and pay a visit to the tailor shop instead.

Fort Hawke

  • You: (The most obvious place for him to have gone is Fort Hawke.)
  • I head to Fort Hawke to look for him.
