Lafayette is a Queen Marie Companion.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

Lafayette is a man with a strong body and steely blue gaze, hardened by his time on the battlefield. He wears a white wig, tied with a black ribbon. His blue jacket features gold trim and striking red accents. His thigh-high black boots may not be historically accurate, but certainly accentuate his muscled legs.

Letters[]

First Letter

Dearest Queen

Please pardon the sudden letter.
I am writing to apologize for how rude I've been to you in the past.
When I left France, you were still a young lady who had just arrived from a foreign land. Time flies, and you are now the revered Queen of France.
The real you is truly different from what the rumors say. So please forgive me for my previous behavior. From now on, I shall do my utmost to earn your forgiveness.
Last but not least, I sincerely wish you all the best.

Gilbert du Motier

Second Letter

Dearest Queen

I'm guessing that the servants will pass you this letter during breakfast. Did I surprise you? I don't mean to disturb you, but there are some things I think you should know.
I've gotten to know you lately, and you've completely destroyed my previous impression of you. You continually demonstrate your intelligence, elegance, and cunning, and it is France's fortune to have a Queen like you.
Sometimes, I find myself unable to ignore your every gesture. That occasional mischief and sensibility are such adorable feminine traits.
Your Majesty, I mean no offense. I respect you deeply... just like I respect the King.
I'm willing to give my all to help revive the royal court. I offer to you all of my strength, and my loyalty.
Of course, if there's anything you would like me to help you with specifically, you need only ask, and I will be delighted to do so.

Gilbert du Motier

Third Letter

Dearest Queen

I've been busy with state affairs lately. Though I keep thinking of you, I find myself unable to find time to contact you. Today I finally get the chance to write to you, but I have so many things to say, that I do not know how to begin.
There are things... that I've suppressed within me for ages, and have been unable to reveal to you.
Today, I finally find the courage after drinking several glasses of whiskey.
Perhaps this letter will never get sent, but I am no longer able to hide these feelings...
Apart from respect, appreciation, and gratitude, I also feel... some romantic feelings towards you.
During a masked banquet, I once met a very elegant young lady, and I can't forget her silhouette. Every time I see you, I am reminded of her.
I've not felt this way since I was a youth. My heart races, my soul is restless, and I am unable to control my gaze. I am even... tempted to betray my principles, and do something that would harm a friendship. I just want to... I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I should not speak of it.
You can't possibly be her, and you're not her...
Oh, what have I written? This letter can never be sent...

Gilbert

Lafayette's Story[]

Disclaimer: The following section contains spoilers for Queen Marie. Please proceed with caution.

The following segments detail Lafayette's story throughout Queen Marie. This section is nothing but spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Before the Story

Lafayette defied the British to go support the war in America. He lost many soldiers under his command during his time there, an experience that changed him greatly.

Chapter 1

Temporary bullet points, just some notes about what I think should be included in the final summary.

  • Lafayette is the first companion we meet
  • He has little respect for the Queen initially
  • Marie can meet him in disguise at the dance and he falls in love <3
  • Lafayette's respect for the queen grows as she denies buying the necklace and takes more interest in the world around her
  • Uhhhh he's willing to throw down with d'Eon when they meet at the bar and he thinks they're a threat? I think?
  • Unlike Fersen who starts off a simp, Lafayette doesn't fall for Marie until she shows maturity

Chapter 2

Temporary bullet points, just some notes about what I think should be included in the final summary.

  • I don't remember what he does in the 2-2 route
  • He defends Marie from an assassin
  • Annnnnnd he's talks to her for like 5 minutes before pledging his loyalty?
  • Oh and he takes Marie to see that Gabrielle is doing alright after her family is disgraced
  • If you pick the Lafayette ending it's nice and all... but you're literally married to the literal king so...
  • If you do the 2-19 route he works together with Fersen to trick the mob and help Marie flee
  • If you do the 2-21 route he takes Marie to America where they live a new life

Trivia[]

Below are trivia about the real Lafayette, his character in the game, as well as his development prior to the book's release.

Historical Trivia[]

  • Lafayette had a wife, but she was never brought up in the game's story.
  • Lafayette was made a major general at the age of 19, but not given American troops initially.

Game Trivia[]

  • According to the author, Lafayette was the character that the development team spent the most time on, as he was originally planned to be just a supporting character.
    • In the earliest draft, Lafayette was originally not planned to be a main character, much less a love interest, and was just Fersen's superior. However, after his original drawing was completed, the team thought it would be a waste for him to be just a supporting character, which led to his role in the story being revised to hold more importance as a result.
