Letters[]
First Letter
To the Queen
I don’t remember writing letters to you before. I’ve no way of knowing whether this letter will bring you joy... Perhaps you’ll just think I’m behaving strangely for a King. I hope it’s now the second, because if that’s the case, I might not find the courage to write you a second letter.
Over the past years, I suspect you’ve developed a lasting impression of me as a quiet introvert. This is one of the reasons why I wanted to write to you. Perhaps a thoughtfully written letter may change your opinion of me.
Oh no, I wanted to fill this letter with entertaining things, but I just ended up sounding like a worrywart again...
Louis Auguste
Second Letter
My dear Marie
I’ve been looking forward to writing to you again, because good things have happened lately and I want to share them with you.
I happened to hunt down a deer this morning. Its meat is pretty tender, and I’ve already instructed the kitchen staff to prepare a good stew with it. You’ll get to taste it tonight!
Last week, I did some research together with Caman. Do you remember Caman? He’s the master locksmith I found. We definitely see eye to eye on the topic of locks! With his help, I managed to craft a salamander lock that spurts water! I’ll show it to you next time.
I still have more to tell you but... I guess I should reserve some for when we actually meet face to face.
When we meet again at the Lantern, I will tell you everything personally haha... Ah, I must get back to work now. Blaisdell and the rest are waiting for me.
Your husband
Auguste
Third Letter
My Queen
How have you been of late? I've been so busy with affairs of state that I can't visit you often, and I hope you'll forgive me. Perhaps it's a sign of old age, but when I'm at my busiest, I often find myself thinking of how we met.
That day, you were wearing a light blue dress and you walked towards me so timidly. I...I was terrible. I was so nervous that I couldn't even make myself smile at you. In the end, you were the one who greeted my first.
Before that moment, I had never thought much about my future wife, but when I saw you, I knew you were the one I wanted to spend my life with. No matter what others think of you, you will always be that lively, kind, and brave girl I know.
All these years, I've tried my best to give you a carefree life, but I don't think I've done very well. You, on the other hand, have always stood right behind me, supporting me, and cheering me on.
Thank you so much for everything that you've done. I am truly honored to by your husband.
Love,
Auguste

Louis XVI's Story[]
Disclaimer: The following section contains spoilers for Queen Marie. Please proceed with caution. |
The following segments detail Louis XVI's story throughout Queen Marie. This section is nothing but spoilers. Read at your own risk.
These are all works in progress. If you feel inspired to actually flesh out the bullet points or add content, please do.
Before the Story
Louis XVI is Marie's husband and the King of France. France has been in turmoil since before he took the throne, and the King struggles with balancing the ideals of Enlightenment with the traditions of the nobility.
Chapter 1
Temporary bullet points; just some notes about what I think should be included in the final summary
- Louis is a nice man but Marie is not in love with him
- He's interested in locksmithing; everyone needs a hobby
- Louis struggles with meeting the needs of the commoners and is happy when Marie offers to sell her jewelry
Chapter 2
Temporary bullet points; just some notes about what I think should be included in the final summary
- If you follow the 2-2 route, Louis is hesistant to tax the nobles although he agrees it's the right thing to do
- He's literally willing to die to protect Marie
- When push comes to shove, he's willing to punish the nobility that doesn't follow the new tax laws
- If you follow the 2-9 route, Louis tries to form a constitutional monarchy, but the commoners are already too angry at the nobles
- You can run away with Gabrielle and Louis to live the life of commoners in Sweden (I think Sweden this needs fact checking); his gadgets are starting to become quite popular!
- You get captured together and he uses his locksmithing skills to help the two of you escape
- If you go with Fersen, d'Eon manages to hide him away
- If you go with Lafayette, Louis sacrifices himself to a mob when your carriage hits a pedestrian
Trivia[]
Below are trivia about the real Louis XVI, his character in the game, as well as his development prior to the book's release.
Historical Trivia[]
- Louis XVI was the second son of the Dauphin (son of the King). His brother died at the age of nine, which left Louis next in line for the throne, and eventually became King at the age of 19.
- The real Louis XVI really did try to reform France according to ideals of Enlightenment; he wanted to abolish serfdom, remove the land tax, and abolish the death penalty for deserters.
Game Trivia[]
- During the writing of the story, Louis was originally not planned as a love option.
- According to the author, the team had considered writing more about Louis XVI's fondness for locks, but due to length limitations and the tone of the story, the idea was eventually abandoned.
- The exact number of locks that Louis XVI has was described to be "innumerable" -- which suggests that he simply has too many locks on hand to physically keep count.
