Letters[]

First Letter

Wen Rou

I hope this letter reaches you.

It's been a long time since you've written. How have you been? You complained Beidu is boring, and that you're not free to do what you want to do. Have you managed to adapt? Since you left, Mother has been thinking of you a lot, and when she misses you, she asks me to get her some jade cookies. The owner of the snack shop knows me by sight now.

Enough small talk. I have something important to tell you. The flooding in Xixian hasn't stopped. I will have to depart for Beidu soon and set up a place for the Luo Family. If the flooding issue doesn't get resolved, we may have to move for good. We can't tell what will happen in the future, but perhaps you and I will become neighbors again in Beidu. If that happens, Mother won't keep asking me to go buy jade cookies, I suppose.

See you in Beidu.

Luo Jiuhua

Second Letter

Wen Rou

I don't know when you'll receive this letter. Xixian is chaos, and I don't even know if you'll get this letter at all. I wonder if I made the right decision the day I saw you off. If anything happens to you, I wouldn't know how to live with myself. I wouldn't be able to face Lord and Lady Wen. I've been worrying so much that I haven't been sleeping well. Chongyu is my homeland, and I should join you.

The region lacks food, so I will do my best to gather food supplies, and try to make a difference. I know you have your own way of thinking, Wen Rou, and I believe you can do it, but there are dangers in Xixian, and safety comes first. Please keep that in mind!

I'm afraid I'll remain anxious until I see you're safe. I hope you'll get this letter, and keep yourself safe. The Wen family needs you, Wen Rou. And I need you as well.

Jiuhua

Third Letter

Wen Rou

I hope this letter reaches you.

I'll get straight to the point. Are you and Lady Wen okay? I saw Lady Wen couldn't accept what you had done, and I worried you might get hurt. But what you've done for the good of the people is truly admirable. Give Lady Wen some time. I'm sure she'll understand some day.

I've hired a craftsman to make a custom hairpin. You inspired the design in Xixian, and I think you'll like it.

I heard Qionglou has come up with a new wine, and everyone who's tasted it is singing its praises. I keep seeing people pass by our gates, and I guess they're all lining up for the wine. Do you want to go try it with me? I'll take the opportunity to pass you the hairpin too, and you can decide whether you want to keep it.

These are all small matters, and I hope you don't mind. Looking forward to your reply.
