  • The king of the Full Moon Kingdom has ordered enhanced security throughout the city in anticipation of the envoys' imminent arrival.
  • Kahir instructs his soldiers to stand guard during the day and patrol at night. The hooligans and hoodlums are nowhere to be seen. It's as if even the stray cats are quieter.
  • You: Is Light taking longer naps in the magic lamp too?
  • ???: You called...
  • You: Yikes! Who's talking? Light?
  • The glow of the magic lamp in the cupboard flickers in response.
  • I take out the magic lamp and rub it a few times. Light's form appears in the smoke.
  • Light: Why are you so surprised? There's no one else in the room but me.
  • Light: We made this arrangement a long time ago. The sooner you get used to my presence, the better.
  • You: Of course I'm used to you! I was just lost in my thoughts! You startled me!
  • Light: Lost in thought...?
  • Light: Don't speak my name if you don't want me to respond.
  • You: Did I call your name?
  • Light clasps his hands to his chest in a "what do you think" look.
  • You: Fine. I can't get the matter of the gemstone out of my head. If we're not careful...
  • Light: I'm glad that you're so concerned, but the foreign envoys won't arrive for quite some time yet. Why get worked up about nothing?
  • You: How am I supposed to keep calm for two weeks with this hanging over me?
  • Light: Why don't you massage my shoulders and legs to help me relax, and prepare to infiltrate the king's palace?
  • You: Dream on!
  • You: I should just go see if Sinbad has anything for me. You don't seem to have any good ideas.
  • Light: So you're leaving the Almighty Genie alone to go wait on that guy?
  • Light: If that's your plan, I'm going back to my nap.
  • Without another word, Light returns to the magic lamp.
  • You: Alright, I'd better change my clothes and get going.

  • On the patio of his mansion, Sinbad is fumbling with his precious tobacco pipe in the warm sunshine.
  • Sinbad: Good morning, Gina! How are you adjusting to life here in my home?
  • You: Great, thank you! The mansion is comfortable, and the banquets are always fun.
  • You: I've met lots of talented people and really broadened my horizons.
  • Sinbad: Haha, sharing wine and food with good company is the best thing in life. I'm glad to hear you like it too.
  • Sinbad: Stay as long as you like. You are welcome at any of the banquets from now on. Anyway, did you ask to see me for any particular reason?
  • You: Nothing important.
  • You: I just... wondered if there's anything I can do to help out at the mansion right now?
  • You: I've got a lot of time on my hands and everyone is always looking after me. I'd like to be useful somehow.
  • Sinbad: It's very nice of you to want to help, but we don't need more hands in the mansion or at the warehouses.
  • I'm a little disappointed. We're interrupted by urgent footsteps entering the compound.
  • The visitor looks familiar. I rack my brains for a moment, and finally recognize him as the First Mate who is often in Sinbad's company.
  • First Mate: Master Sinbad! Baider has fallen ill and can't sail with us.
  • Sinbad: Is he alright? Have you called a doctor?
  • First Mate: Rest assured, a medic is already on his way.
  • First Mate: However, I'm afraid we need a new sailor for the upcoming voyage.
  • Sinbad: Well, that can wait. I have some gold here. Pass it to Baider's mother for me.
  • Sinbad: Tell him to rest up and not worry about going to sea.
  • First Mate: Thank you so much! I'll pass on the good news!
  • The First Mate happily accepts the small bag of gold coins and leaves the mansion.
  • You: It's miserable being ill. I hope he recovers soon.
  • You: Sinbad, I've never been afraid of a hard job. Maybe I can work at the dock to fill in for Baider.
  • Sinbad seems to consider it for a moment. Then he looks excitedly at me.
  • Sinbad: If you're that free, would you like to join our crew for the voyage?
  • You: Crew?! You mean... go out to sea?
  • Sinbad: Yes, we are about to set sail for the eastern seas to look for a mysterious island. Are you interested?
  • Sinbad: Rumor has it that the island is simply overflowing with resources, an inexhaustible supply of mouth-watering delicacies, and endless spring water!
  • Sinbad: I also heard that... the island only appears to those who possess the true spirit of an explorer. It sounds incredible!
  • You: Is there really such an island?
  • Sinbad: I plan to find out the answer to that question! So what do you say? Are you brave enough to come along?
  • Sinbad's description excites me. After all, I've never had the opportunity to set sail before.
  • However, I'm worried that I might miss the arrival of the foreign envoys if I go on this trip.
  • You: (Perhaps I should prioritize the gemstone search...)

Reject Sinbad's invitation

  • You: I'm sorry, Sinbad, I may not be able to accept your invitation.
  • Sinbad: Why? Do you think it's too dangerous?
  • You: No, not that. It's just that in two weeks, I have something very important to do.
  • You: Once I'm done with it, I hope I'll be allowed to join your ship!
  • Sinbad: You are always welcome. But you don't have to say no so quickly. Maybe there isn't a scheduling conflict.
  • Sinbad: I'll go discuss the itinerary with the First Mate, and then we'll decide once we know the dates. How about that?
  • I think about it for a moment, and give Sinbad a nod.

Give a reason to hesitate

  • You: I'd love to go, but I have a prior arrangement with a friend so I am afraid I'll miss it if I sail with the ship.
  • Sinbad: Oh. It must be a very important arrangement. When are you meeting them?
  • You: Ah, it's not really a meeting. It's an agreement to do something very important together in two weeks' time.
  • Sinbad: Well in that case, there won't be a problem if we can get back before then, right?
  • You: Uh-huh... but won't that disrupt your plans?
  • Sinbad: You don't have to worry about that. I'll discuss this with the First Mate and tell you what we decide!

  • Back in my room, I hastily summon Light again.
  • Light: You're back so early? The big guy must have given you an easy job.
  • You: No, Sinbad has no work for me right now. However...
  • I sit on the bed, and tell Light all about Sinbad's invitation to sail with him.
  • Light: No, you can't go!
  • You: Why?
  • Light: Even if the big guy can change his schedule, things can go very wrong at sea. How can he guarantee your safety?
  • Light: Even experienced sailors are at the mercy of fate when there is a sudden change in the weather. And the big guy is a half-wit who relies on pure luck.
  • You: Light, I won't let you say that about Sinbad! He has more experience at sea than either of us!
  • Light: I don't see it. And to make matters worse, this is an island no one knows about...
  • Light: He must have read about it from one of his strange books. It sounds like pure fantasy.
  • Light: There's no point in going, so you might as well stay at home and rest!
  • You: I'm not that concerned about the island. Think about it... Sinbad and his crew have seen a lot of things.
  • You: Maybe someone will have a clue about the gemstone!
  • Light: Honestly, that's the definition of wishful thinking...
  • Light and I argue on and on without reaching a conclusion. We're interrupted by a knock on the door.
  • Sinbad: Gina, it's me, Sinbad.
  • You: Light, hide!
  • Light: ...
  • You: Gina, I talked it over with the First Mate.
  • You: You decided so quickly?
  • Sinbad: Haha, well, I forgot that in two weeks I have to go to the king's palace for the envoy banquet.
  • Sinbad: So, whether or not we find the island, we'll be back in ten days!
  • Sinbad: This is a rare opportunity. Now, let me hear your decision.
  • He seems so excited that I don't want to disappoint him. Besides, it's a chance to experience something new!
  • You: I'd love to go with you!
  • Sinbad: Great, Gina! I'm sure you'll find the voyage a worthwhile adventure.
  • Long after he vanishes down the corridor, I can still hear his laughter echoing against the walls.
  • You: Light, did you hear that?
  • You: Sinbad said we'll be back to the Full Moon Kingdom in ten days because he can't miss the arrival of the foreign envoys.
  • Light: If you don't value your life, go ahead. At least you won't be moping in the room.
  • You: Don't say that. What if we do find the island?
  • You: Anyway, you'll be coming with me, right?
  • Light: Hmph, what's so great about floating around the ocean? I'll have to think about it...
