- The ship filled with gold, and the Sea Explorer's description of people who lost their senses...
- I am reminded of the rumor I heard in the tavern that evening....
- Drunk B: Don't you remember? A few years ago... An unlucky crew went looking for the island...
- Drunk B: It was like they were hypnotized... And a passing ship was the only reason they made it back to the mainland at all.
- Drunk A: I think I remember something about that... Does it have anything to do with the island?
- Drunk B: What else could it be? Only a few of the ships that have gone looking for it have returned!
- Drunk A: But a ship that made it back was full of gold! I hear the hold was shining!
- You: In our timeline, your ship set out to find the island just a few years ago.
- You: When your ship returned with all that gold, all the other sailors started looking for the island.
- Sea Explorer: That's impossible. I can't have misremembered the time.
- Sea Explorer: I've watched the sun rise and set on this island alone so many times... How can it be just a few short years?
- Sinbad: What if that's part of the curse?
- Sinbad: Perhaps the curse warps your perception of time as part of the punishment.
- The Sea Explorer falls silent again.
- For a while, no one says anything, and all we can hear is the heavy breathing from the fog.
- Sea Explorer: If that's the case, I'm to blame for all this.
- Sea Explorer: How could I have known that the curse would be so vicious? If only I had listened to my father...
- You: (He's still hiding something...)
You know about the curse?
- Sea Explorer: There is an ancient line of writing engraved on the monolith where the conch was taken from.
- Sea Explorer: It says the sound of the conch can lift the curse, and there will be serious consequences if the conch is removed.
Your father?
- Sea Explorer: I told you I came here for the treasures on the island.
- Sea Explorer: The one who told me about all this was my father.
- Sinbad: If you want us to help you, tell us everything you know.
- Sinbad: Especially about the curse! If you leave anything out, I'll set sail first thing in the morning.
- Sea Explorer: I understand — please listen to me, both of you!
- Sea Explorer: I come from a family that had known magic for generations. But by my father's time, our magic had been lost.
- Sea Explorer: Still, In line with our ancestral tradition, my father continued to travel and collect magical books, one of which mentioned this island.
- Sea Explorer: This island was once inhabited by a tribe of great magicians. They all perished by a curse, leaving behind countless treasures.
- You: Has the curse been in place since then?
- Sea Explorer: Yes. But the second half of the book was completely burned, and I couldn't learn the exact nature of the curse.
- Sea Explorer: Since my father's study of magic had been unsuccessful and my family's fortune was declining, I had to leave home to seek opportunities at sea.
- Sea Explorer: My captain hired and took care of me, so I told him about the island.
- Sinbad: If you knew about the curse, why did you take the black conch?
- Sinbad: Didn't you have a boatload of gold from the island? That wasn't enough?
- Sea Explorer: The black conch has the power to lift curses. There must be powerful magic within.
- Sea Explorer: I wanted to bring it home to my father.
- Sea Explorer: Maybe... maybe...
- Sinbad: Fool! Because of your selfish desire, you harmed your whole crew!
- Sea Explorer: I admit I made a mistake, but I didn't know the curse would affect the others!
- Sea Explorer: My captain took me in when I was at my worst. Why would I want to hurt him?
- Sinbad: You still have a conscience, at least.
- Sea Explorer: Kind captain, beautiful lady, I have told you everything there is to tell.
- Sea Explorer: I only implore you to give me a chance to redeem myself!
- Sinbad shakes his head and looks at me-
Speak your mind
- You: Sinbad, in a few years, he has hurt every single person who's arrived on the island.
- You: The curse is no excuse. In all this time, he just kept hurting others instead of changing his ways.
- You: I don't think he can be redeemed even if we return the conch!
- Sea Explorer: I understand that I can't possibly make amends for my many sins.
- Sea Explorer: But even if I deserve my punishment, I beg you to give the crewmates I dragged in a chance to survive.
Leave it to Sinbad
- I am at a loss.
- You: Sinbad, I don't think I can give any advice on this.
- You: I can understand his reasons for taking the conch, but I can't approve of what he did afterwards.
- You: But if we don't return the conch, the innocent souls of the others won't be released.
- Sinbad: Right...
- You: No matter what decision you make, Sinbad, I'll support you.
- Sinbad: I understand what you mean, child.
- Sinbad: We should return the black conch, for the sake of the innocent crew members.
- Sinbad: As the captain of a ship, I can't just sit by and leave other sailors to drown.
- You: Sinbad...
- Even though I still begrudge the Sea Explorer for what he has done, Sinbad's choice does not surprise me.
- Ever since Sinbad generously allowed me to stay at his mansion, I've learned that Sinbad is the most compassionate man in the Full Moon Kingdom.
- Although he occasionally seems scatterbrained, he can be counted on when it comes to making important decisions.
- Sea Explorer: So you will return the conch? Thank you!
- Sinbad: But I have a condition.
- Sea Explorer: Name it!
- Sinbad: If the curse is successfully lifted, you must apologize to your captain and crewmates.
- Sinbad: If you retrieve the treasure you acquired from the island, you must donate your share to make up for the evil you've done.
- Sinbad: If you can't retrieve your share, find me. I'll give you a job and then personally oversee your redemption for the rest of your life.
- Sea Explorer: You will let someone like me work for you?
- Sinbad: Room and board only. Your wages will be given to those you hurt, as compensation for your misdeeds.
- Sea Explorer: You are truly magnanimous!
- Sinbad: If you don't keep your word, I will find you and punish you severely.
- Sea Explorer: Please rest assured, I will cherish this opportunity!
- You: (... I really hope he can change his ways this time.)
- You: Now let us return the conch.
- Sinbad: Please lead the way.
- Sea Explorer: I'm sorry, but the conch can only be returned when the sun rises.
- Sea Explorer: The alcove on the monolith closes at night.
- You: It can do something like that?
- When I saw the monument during the day, it was weathered and damaged. It looked completely ordinary.
- Sea Explorer: Legend has it that the magicians specialized in light. Their magic may only function in sunlight.
- Sea Explorer: If they built the monolith, its magic may only work in the light.
- Sinbad: This island really is a magical place.
- Sinbad looks at the bright moon in the sky with his hands behind his back, sighing from the bottom of his heart.
- Sea Explorer: I'll send you back to your ship to rest.
- Sinbad: Aren't you afraid we won't come back once we leave?
- Sea Explorer: I believe you are a man of your word, Captain Sinbad. And if you really decide not to come back, I suppose I would deserve it...
- Sinad: Haha, you're right! Remember what you've learned tonight. Be a good person when the curse is lifted!
- Hearing Sinbad's cheerful laughter, I feel a sense of relief.
- But then he seems to remember something-
- Sinbad: My crew is still sound asleep on the mainland!
- Sea Explorer: Don't worry, I'll send your crew back to the ship.
- Sinbad: Alright, I'll leave it all to you.
- Sinbad: There's still some time before the sun rises. Let's go back and get some rest, Gina!
- You: Alright.
