You : (Where... am I?)
As I slowly regain my senses, the view before me grows clearer. The strange scent has vanished.
I try getting up, but it feels like I'm I'm trapped under a boulder. I can't even move a finger.
You : (What happened just now?)
I can hear water lapping, and I feel like driftwood that's bobbing gently on water.
I'm surrounded by icy cold walls, and I guess I'm on a wooden oat.
The man wearing the black cloak is huge. I'm familiar with his silhouette by now. He is holding an oar, and rowing silently.
You : (The Phantom?!)
You : (He has kidnapped me. What is he going to do to me?)
I start to hyperventilate, and my heart leaps up into my throat.
My nerves are stretched taut, and my senses are now on full alert.
I look around me in the dark, and notice that there's mist everywhere. I haven't seen this place before.
You : (This must be the Phantom's lair. There must be mechanisms everywhere.)
You : (I need to calm down and think of a way to save myself!)
Pretend to sleep[]
Try talking to him[]
You : (I heard Madame Giry talk about her experiences before...)
You : (Judging from her story, the Phantom does follow some principles, and he's not a completely evil madman.)
You : (He has not harmed me yet, so he must have kidnapped me for some other reason.)
You : (Perhaps I should try talking to him...)
I take a moment to mentally prepare myself, and then I gather up my courage to speak.
You : You're... the Phantom, right?
I try my best to keep my voice from trembling. I need to talk to him intelligently.
You : Why have you brought me here?
He seems to shake a little, but he does not turn his head.
You : If I am of no use to you, please let go of me.
The Phantom does not reply. The boat continues at a steady pace.
In the vast underground, all I can hear is my own breathing and the sound of water flowing.
As the boat goes deeper into the darkness, the air turns colder and colder. I can't help shivering.
Finally, the boat reaches shore.
The Phantom carries me gently off the boat, and places me on a bed.
The Phantom : Christine...
In the dim lamp light, he gazes at me steadily, as if he's watching someone he loves deeply.
The Phantom : You are finally mine.
His voice is gentle, but his words are terrifying.
You : What have you done? Why can't I move?
He laughs a little. Then he tucks a lock of my hair behind my ear.
The Phantom : Don't be afraid, Christine. Soon, your body will go back to normal.
The Phantom : How could I bear to hurt you?
The Phantom lifts his hand and caresses my cheek. The movement is exceedingly gentle, as if he's touching a fragile vase.
My hairs stand on end, dispite his gentleness.
You : What are you planning? What would it take to make you let me go?
The Phantom shakes his head, and does not answer my question. It's as if he's dealing with an errant child.
The Phantom : You must be hungry. Fortunately, I've prepared dinner in advance.
The Phantom walks over to the closet and opens it. There is a grand dress inside.
The Phantom : Get changed and come to dinner. I will be waiting for you in the dining hall.
Having given me the instructions, he leaves the room.
I lie helplessly on the bed, hoping that mybody will recover soon.
You : (His voice sounds so much like the Angel of Music. I'm certain he pretended to be the Angel to lure me underground.)
You : (But how would the Phantom know of the Angel of Music? and how did he manage to imitate the Angel's voice?)
Everything that has anything to do with him in the opera house is filled with mystery.
With my limited experience and knowledge, I can't for the life of me figure out his methods and his goal.
You : (He treats me so kindly, but... No, not just kindly. He acts as if he treasures me.)
You : (How could the Phantom possibly love me? This is too creepy.)
I speculate wildly as the minutes tick by. Finally, I ragin control of my limbs.
I jump off the bed, and my first thought is to leave immediately. However, try as I might, I just cannot make the door budge.
You : The Phantom has locked me in here!
I knock on the walls, hoping to find another way out of here.
But after just a few knocks, the Phantom speaks to me.
The Phantom : If you're ready, Christine, just call for me, and I will be glad to help.
The Phantom : I think you know it's rude to barge out of the place when you've been invited as a guest.
The Phantom laughs, mocking my helplessness. I feel utterly defeated.
I'm trapped in his lair, and I have no way of fighting back. I can only obey.
You : (I guess I'll just have to change my clothes and go have dinner with him.)
After changing, I notice that the door is now unlocked.
I push open the door, and take a good look around me. The place is finely decorated, and the items carefully chosen. It's nothing like the dark and crude place I imagined it to be.
Lavish dishes are laid out on the dining table, and the Phantom is sitting at one end.
You : (This food looks exquisite. Did he prepare all of this? Alone?)
He notices my surprise, and laughs self-deprecatingly.
The Phantom : I suppose you never considered the idea that the Phantom would need to eat food.
You : I just never imagined that there would be such lavish dishes in this dark underground maze.
The Phantom nods at me to signal that he wants me to sit down. Seated, I notice that not only are the dishes exquisite, there are many cooked in ways I'm unfamiliar with.
The dishes include food that I love, as well as the wine that I like.
The Phantom : I prepared this food specially for you, Christine. I'm sure you'll like the food.
He calmly removes his napkin, and pours red wine into my glass.
I am in no mood to eat anything.
The Phantom has kidnapped me, yet he's acting like he hasn't. I blurt out the question on my mind.
You : I don't understand. Why choose me?
You : I'm just an ordinary singer in the Paris Opera House.
You : Besides, we never interacted before this.
The Phantom : You will understand it all, Christine. The answer is hidden in your memories.
You : My... memories?
The Phantom : You've just forgotten it for now.
The Phantom : Don't worry, I'll help you remember. We should enjoy our dinner first.
The Phantom : This is our first dinner together after reuniting. We should make a toast.
He raises his glass, a smile on his lips. His eyes look at me unwaveringly.
It's as if this memory he speaks of truly exists.
I try my best to recall the past, but I just can't think of anything to do with the Phantom.
You : (Is he saying the truth, or is he lying?)
