The incidents with the necklace have given me a newfound perspective on the kindness and evil of humanity. I've learnt to treasure what I have and to help the less fortunate.

  • Perhaps way too much has happened, but I keep having all kinds of dreams - some seem to belong to "Marie", and some belong to me.
  • The dreams mingle and I can no longer tell which are mine. It's as though they all are.
  • After all of this upheaval, I've become even more closely entwined with "the other me", and I can no long tell us apart.

  • Early in the morning, I receive word that the King wants to see me. I ignore the feeling of dread within me and hurry to the study.
  • You: Your Majesty, why have you asked for me?
  • Louis XVI: Come look at what I'm holding in my hand.
  • I relax once I see the intricate lock in his hand.
  • Locks, and the study of locks is his passion. And a secret shared between us.
  • Louis XVI: I've spent three whole months crafting this from a rare blueprint that was incredibly hard to obtain. What do you think?

Praise him

  • You: I have never seen such an intricate and fascinating lock. I don't even know how to describe it!
  • Louis XVI: Marie, this is the first time you've complimented my handiwork...
  • Louis XVI: Do you really think so?
  • You: Of course, your Majesty! This is very fine craftsmanship. I'm impressed!
  • Louis XVI: I've never let anyone find out about my hobby... Except for you.
  • Louis XVI: You've never seemed interested in the past. I'm so glad to hear your praises today.
  • You: I'm honoured that I can make you happy, your Majesty.
  • Louis XVI: Marie, you've really changed.
  • Louis XVI: I'm so happy that not only are you becoming more like a Queen, you're also becoming more like a family member.

Hesitate to reply

  • Looking at that intricate lock, I am so stunned that I am unable to think of a reply.
  • Louis XVI: Marie... You told me before, that you don't like it when I indulge in hobbies unbefitting my status.
  • Louis XVI: You've changed lately, and I thought that maybe you might be able to accept my hobby now. But...
  • You: Your Majesty, you misunderstand.
  • You: I have never seen such a beautiful and intricate lock. I was so stunned that I didn't know what to say...
  • Louis XVI: Really? Is that really what you think?
  • You: Of course, your Majesty! This is very fine craftsmanship. I'm impressed!
  • Louis XVI: That's wonderful. I knew you'd understand, Marie.

  • His gaze is so gentle and sincere that I can't help melting...
  • Apart from the occasional visits to my grandfather, I've not felt the warmth of family for a long time.
  • Louis XVI: You really are an angel from Austria. I really wish I could do something to make you happy.
  • Louis XVI: Is there anything you'd like? I'll get it for you, no matter how difficult that might be.
  • You: Your Majesty, I only wish for France to prosper, and that everyone can live in bliss.
  • When I arrived in this world, I faced so much frustration and anger, but I've also met people who truly care for me.
  • Fersen, Lafayette, Gabrielle, Leonard...
  • Louis XVI: What a coincidence. That's what I was thinking too, and I've already thought of something.
  • You: Really? What did you think of?
  • Louis XVI: Let's go to Notre-Dame, and distribute provisions to the poor. That's my main reason for seeing you today.
  • Louis XVI: This might not solve all problems, but I believe the people will feel our sincerity.
  • You: But our finances...
  • The war helped America achieve independence, but it has dealt a huge blow to our finances.
  • And Louis XV's spendthrift ways have emptied out the royal treasury...
  • Louis XVI: Don't worry. This bit of money is nothing. And Blaisdell has already promised to handle the matter.
  • Louis XVI: This isn't just for the people, but also to help mend your reputation as well as that of the royal family.
  • You: I understand, your Majesty. Thank you. When are we going?
  • Louis XVI: Right this afternoon. Go get changed, and we can go.
  • You: All right. Please wait, I'll go get changed now.

  • Louis XVI: My Queen, may I have the honour of escorting you?
  • You: I'm honoured to be able to do something meaningful together with you!

  • The noise of the crowd dies down once we arrive. There is a moment of quiet, but soon, the bustle returns.
  • The church is crammed with people, including malnourished children. They eye the provisions we've brought with us, and seem oblivious to anything else.
  • Warm sunlight falls on them, revealing hollow faces filled with despair, instead of the naiveté that children their age should have.
  • You: I'm glad that the King suggested helping the poor. I don't know how many more days of suffering these children would have to go through otherwise.
  • Louis XVI: ...
  • Louis XVI: Do you remember? When I first inherited the throne, we also held an alms-giving session.
  • Louis XVI: Back then, the people had high expectations of me, and hoped that I would lead France towards a glorious future.
  • Louis XVI: But now it looks like the people who need aid have increased instead.
  • Looking at the children before me, I can sense the King's frustration and regret. I don't know what to say to comfort him, so I merely continued distributing the food and clothing.

  • After a portion of the supplies has been distributed, I turn my head to check my surroundings and a sudden commotion outside attracts my attention.

If you helped the people in 1-5

  • People are filing out of the church, carrying daily necessities and food...
  • At the same time, droves of impoverished people are swarming into the place, shoving one another and grumbling angrily. However, no one causes any real trouble.
  • Upon seeing the situation, the King nods to his men, and the crowd is quickly separated according to their needs into groups of adults and children.
  • Nun: Don't shove, walk slowly. Everyone will get their share.
  • Commoner Youth: All hail the King and Queen, you are kind and generous. Angels sent by God!
  • Child: Thank you!
  • The smiles appear genuine, and there are mothers who allow their children to approach me and touch my gown.
  • Someone starts to clap, and the clapping spreads through the crowd. The people's smiles and voices are music to the ears.
  • Looking upon this scene, I finally feel like all my hard work has finally paid off, and I start to tear.
  • You: I thought I'd be hated by the people forever. I never though I'd see so many friendly faces...
  • Louis XVI: You must have faith in yourself. In my heart, you are the most beautiful and kindest person I know.
  • Louis XVI: Thanks to your efforts, I now know how good you are, and all of France knows that now as well.
  • Louis XVI: The jewellery you donated and this alms-giving have won our people over.
  • You: That is wonderful...!
  • Louis XVI: I never thought you'd be so overwhelmed by this. I guess distributing provisions was the right choice to make.
  • I let myself absorb the grateful looks all around me, and give a small wave.
  • Sunlight comes in through the windows and bathes everyone in a gentle glow. I clasp my hands in front of my bosom and slowly close my eyes.

If you purchased a ship in 1-5

  • Just as we are about to wrap up the session, a lot of people come rushing in to snatch food and necessities...
  • Every entrance is suddenly swimming with the poor. They keep shoving and yelling at one another, and causing chaos.
  • Nun: Stop shoving, stop snatching! You're acting like a mob!
  • The King takes note of the situation, and nods to his men, who quickly push through the crowd, enter the church, and separate us from the people.
  • The guards finally get the situation under control, but many of the subdued mobsters glare hatefully at the King and I.
  • Commoner Youth: The royal family spent all our taxes and is only giving us this little?
  • Commoner Woman: There's way too little bread. Do they think we're beggars?
  • Elderly Commoner: Madame Déficit, we heard that you want us to eat cake!
  • Commoner Youth: Just look at their clothes! It's all silk and gems! The royalty only care about enjoying themselves, and don't care if we live or die!
  • You: (What's... What's going on? Has all my hard work been in vain?)
  • I try looking for any traces of friendliness in the crowd, but I find none. It's as though I've intruded upon foreign territory, and everyone regards me as an outsider.
  • You: (What am I thinking? In their eyes, I really am a foreigner...)
  • Louis XVI: Has there been no improvement in their view of me at all?
  • Louis XVI: Guards, stay alert. Don't let them near the Queen.
  • Louis XVI: Marie, forgive me. I did not know that things have gotten so bad...
  • You: I'm all right, but... I really don't know what to do now.
  • Louis XVI: No, Marie, you must have faith in yourself. In my heart, you are the most beautiful and kindest person I know...
  • Louis XVI: This misunderstanding won't last. When they realise how good you are, I'm sure they will welcome you with love and respect.
  • Louis XVI: Just like when you first arrived in France...
  • The King's words remind me of the warm welcome I received in the Forest of Compiègne when I journeyed to France as a young girl.
  • You: I won't give up hope, your Majesty... I believe that some day, they will change their opinion of me.
  • Louis XVI: I'm glad you can think of it that way.
  • Louis XVI: Guards, inform the police of the situation. They must make sure that this is handled perfectly.
  • Louis XVI: Let us go. We must not stay here any longer.
  • In the midst of the chaos, and under the protection of the guards, we get on the carriage back to the palace of Versailles.
  • As the carriage draws away, the people's angry shouts grow distant. Eventually, all we hear is the sound of carriage.
  • I clasp my hands in front of my bosom, and slowly close my eyes. In my mind, I keep seeing those angry and hateful eyes, and those vengeful cries keep replaying...
  • You: (I hope things will get better and better...)
  • I can only pray with all my heart.
