  • Aunt Petit has been busy compiling her new book at home, so I've not had a chance to go look for Mr. Savile.
  • I count the days anxiously, and the night of the full moon is just a few days away...

  • I get tired of being cooped up indoors, and decide to take a stroll in the greenhouse one afternoon.
  • I walk past the fountain and along the outermost flowers, looking for the white roses I love.
  • You: Huh?
  • I catch a glimpse of the open garden side door outside the walls of the greenhouse.
  • You: Is that... Mr. Erskine's carriage outside the door?
  • After a moment, I see a primly dressed Aunt Petit hurrying towards the side door.
  • You: Mr. Erskine's such a great help. I must go out right away!
  • You: Oh yes, I should change into something that won't rouse any suspicion.

  • Jack: You want to go to Mr. Vincent Savile's residence?!
  • You: Yes, there's something I want to discuss with him.
  • You: After the Lindvall ball, you sent Mr. Savile back home, so you should know his address, right?
  • Jack: Well... I do remember the address.
  • Jack: Miss Rayes, looks like you're getting along quite well with Mr. Savile!
  • Jack: Are you dressed like this because you don't want Madam to find out? I do feel that the two of you would make a nice couple!
  • You: Nonsense! I just like to examine literature with him sometimes.
  • Jack: Haha, no need to explain! I understand!
  • The carriage stops on a street in an area between the Eastern and Western Districts.
  • Jack: That building is where Mr. Savile stays. But I don't know which apartment.
  • You: I'll just go ask the receptionist. Thank you, you can go back first.
  • Jack: When do you intend to return? I'll come fetch you.
  • You: Well... Mr. Savile will send me back home.
  • Jack: Alright! Enjoy your date.
  • You: Jack!
  • Jack sticks his tongue out at me, and then jumps back on the carriage.
  • I shake my head in exasperation, and watch the carriage disappear into the distance. Then I go look for the receptionist.

  • You: How do you do? May I ask, which apartment does Mr. Vincent Savile stay in?
  • Receptionist: I'm afraid you have the wrong place. He doesn't stay here.
  • You: How is that possible? He told me his address himself.
  • Receptionist: You see, Mr. Savile does pay us a fee, and he's registered here.
  • Receptionist: But we're only in charge of receiving his mail and keeping it for him. We don't know where he stays.
  • You: What do I do now? I have urgent business with him.
  • You: Do you know of a place he might frequent?
  • Receptionist: I don't know that either.
  • Receptionist: But he always walks towards the east along the street after getting his mail. Perhaps you can head east to try your luck.
  • You: Alright, I'm sorry for the trouble.

  • After leaving the building, since I can't think of anything else to do, I head east along the street.
  • You: (If I keep going, I'll reach the Eastern District.)
  • You: (Even if Mr. Savile stays there, I won't be able to find him in that dense area.)
  • After passing by a few streets, I notice there are more and more branches in the street up ahead.
  • You: (I can't just keep on walking aimlessly.)
  • You: (If I get lost, or run into any trouble, that would be bad. I guess I'll just have to go home...)
  • I walk to the side, and look up and down the street, wondering if I can spot a carriage for hire.
  • Then I notice an unexpected patch of greenery just behind a decaying street corner.
  • You: (There's actually a small patch of forest at the end of that filthy alley...)
  • It's clearly the first time I've ever been here, but it feels strangely familiar.
  • You: (That's right, <Greenery of Ashes>! That's a poem inside the <Wilderness>!)
  • You: (It might just be a spot frequented by Mr. Savile!)

  • It's a very tiny patch of forest. More accurately speaking, it's probably an abandoned park.
  • I step on the fallen leaves, and focus on investigating the place. Startled birds flap their wings and fly up to the tree branches.
  • The tree leaves rustle in the wind, and I notice a familiar figure beyond the swaying branches.
  • You: Mr. Savile, is that you?
  • The figure starts, then turns around.
  • Vincent Savile: Miss Rayes?
  • Mr. Savile's face is deathly pale, and I can even see faint purple veins beneath his skin.
  • You: Are you ill?!
  • Vincent Savile: No, I'm not.
  • I take out a handkerchief, intending to wipe away the sweat on his brow. But he rapidly backs away to stand in the shadows.
  • Vincent Savile: Miss Rayes, I never expected to see you here.
  • You: I did spend a lot of effort trying to track you down.
  • You: There's something I wish to ask you.
  • Vincent Savile: What is it?
  • You: I know you've been investigating the source of the epidemic, and you know much about the situation in Eastern District.
  • You: At the ball, you also mentioned tricksters who claim to be able to prevent or cure the disease.
  • You: I wonder if you know of "fake remedies" that result in symptoms similar to the disease symptoms?
  • Vincent Savile: What do you mean?
  • You: Some days ago, my friend drank some kind of medicine that's supposed to help prevent the disease.
  • You: That very night, she experienced some strange symptoms.
  • Vincent Savile: What kind of symptoms?
  • You: Anxiety, overheating, nightmares, and... a bizarre thirst for blood.
  • Mr. Savile's expression changes.
  • Vincent Savile: And how is your friend now?
  • You: She returned to normal the next day, but she's getting really scared, and so---
  • Vincent Savile: So you've come running to me for help.
  • Mr. Savile seems to have seen right through me, and I'm at a loss.
  • Vincent Savile: Miss Rayes, if you don't tell me everything, I can't possibly help you.
  • Under Mr. Savile's steady gaze, I decide to give in and tell him all about the Scarlet Rose Club.
  • Vincent Savile: You really have no sense of danger.
  • Vincent Savile: Entering such a shady organization on your own... Should I even praise your courage?
  • You: Now that I think about it, I guess I was too reckless.
  • You: But I have a reason for doing it, and I suspect the Scarlet Rose Club started this epidemic.
  • Vincent Savile: The adverse effects of the "prayer water" aren't enough to prove that theory.
  • Vincent Savile: And the discomfort you felt vanished after that night.
  • Vincent Savile: The people who get infected display far more obvious symptoms, and they quickly pass away.
  • You: Even if my theory is too far-fetched, we still know that there's something wrong with the "prayer water".
  • You: The Baroness could be using it to control the club members, and make it impossible for people to get free.
  • Vincent Savile: What do you plan to do about the full moon ritual?
  • You: Well, I can't hide from it, so I guess I'll just go along. I might just be able to find out about what the club is really doing.
  • Vincent Savile: Have you considered that you might lose your life when you expose the truth?
  • You: Of course I have.
  • You: I came looking for you, because I wanted to see if I could find a way to save myself...
  • Vincent Savile: There is a way, but it'll be dangerous.
  • You: What way?
  • Vincent Savile: We can work together. You continue taking part in the club's activities, including that mysterious ritual.
  • Vincent Savile: Learn the details of their ritual, and then pass me the information in secret.
  • Vincent Savile: On the night of the full moon, I will lurk in the shadows and wait for an opportunity to make a move. You need only support me when needed.
  • You: Work together... Just the two of us?
  • Vincent Savile: Frankly speaking, I've heard of this club too, after spending so much time in the Eastern District.
  • Vincent Savile: But they only accept young aristocrats as members, and so I've never been able to find out much about them.
  • Vincent Savile: Miss Rayes, your voluntary attempt to reach me has given me a precious opportunity.
  • You: I see... So what do you plan to do on the night of the full moon?
  • Vincent Savile: As a precaution, I cannot tell you that yet.
  • Vincent Savile: But you can rest assured. I will find a way for you to escape.
  • You: Ah...

Accept his suggestion

  • I'm still doubtful, but it's an idea after all, and at least it's better than fighting this all alone or arousing the suspicions of the club.
  • You: (And Mr. Savile seems to know a great deal about Eastern District and the epidemic, things no one else seems to know.)
  • You: (There's no better person to rely on.)
  • You: Alright, I accept.
  • Vincent Savile: Miss Rayes, you really are a courageous lady.
  • Vincent Savile: Now that I have your trust, I'm willing to give my life if necessary, to protect you on the night of the full moon.
  • Vincent Savile: Please be careful in the days before the ritual. Don't tell anyone about anything.
  • You: I understand.
  • You: If I find any information before the night of the full moon, I will find a way to pass it to you.

Refuse to work together

  • You: I'm sorry, but if you don't tell me what you plan to do, I can't work with you.
  • Vincent Savile: I understand you're worried, but it's not wise to do this alone.
  • You: You want me to be honest with you, but you refuse to tell me anything. How am I supposed to trust you?
  • You: This concerns my safety, as well as my friend's safety. I can't take such a huge risk.
  • You: If I obey the Baroness' orders, I might still survive. Traitors to the club will be punished.
  • Mr. Savile is silent for a while. He frowns, seemingly conflicted.
  • Finally, he sighs.
  • Vincent Savile: Alright, you're worried, but I have my reasons too.
  • Vincent Savile: If that's the case, I won't force you.
  • You: I will think of something on my own. Please don't tell anyone about this.
  • He calls out to me as I'm turning to leave.
  • Vincent Savile: Miss Rayes, I promise I won't tell anyone about what you've said today.
  • Vincent Savile: But if I manage to gain information about the ritual via my own methods, please do not get in my way.
  • I'm not sure what Mr. Savile means by that, but I nod my head hesitantly.
  • On the way home, I gaze out the carriage window at the gray, foggy streets, feeling uneasy.
  • Will everything go according to Mr. Savile's plans?
