Please forgive the sudden letter.
It's my first time here. I traveled from afar after hearing of the food at Five Flavors Inn, and it is just as I've heard. You turn even a simple dish like spring onions with tofu into a delicacy. I gather the soy sauce you used was homemade? It added the right hint of saltiness to the cold dish, and, combined with a few drops of sesame oil, elevated the dish, giving it a more complex flavor. It made for a delicious meal when paired with a simple bun.
Miss Xi, you're a skilled chef and a magnanimous person. The Jiangnan flood has displaced many, and I'm moved by your willingness to lend a child a helping hand.
Perhaps your passion and sincerity is what the Great Qian Dynasty needs...

I apologize for not telling you the truth when we first met. I would have if not for the duties I had to fulfill. I hope you understand.
A lot has happened since I moved into the Five Flavors Inn. There were some dangerous incidents, but also many happy memories. It's been rather eventful, and I'm glad I experienced it all with you.
These days, I reminisce about my childhood when I'm free, remembering the times my cousin and I misbehaved and were reprimanded by our teacher. These precious memories never fail to put a smile on my face. Such happy, carefree times are hard to come by as an adult. There are endless matters to attend to, and sometimes, you find out your friends have ulterior motives... All of this weighs on me and I almost forget I was once a happy child who had true friends.
I never imagined I would one day experience the joy of having real friends again, and am extremely grateful to you and Liansheng.

In this treacherous palace, the truth is often not what it seems, and it's hard to find people you can trust, if any at all.
The Empress Dowager's birthday banquet is approaching and there will be performances around the palace, arranged by envoys from all over. I can barely sleep knowing there are commoners starving outside as the palace revels in such ostentatious activities.
I have no choice but to put up with all of this, day after day, for the greater good...
I won't go on any further. I hope the day will come when the sun shines again on this dark, decaying palace...
