Yuga is a Miss Kitty's Antiques Companion.

Profile[]

Appearance[]

In his human form, Yuga is a fairly tall male with a slightly tan complexion. While his appearance is largely similar to Yuta, unlike his white-maned brother, Yuga's fur is black in colour, with black pointed ears that are usually concealed, and a single black fluffy tail at the back. His irises are yellow against black sclera, and his face is covered in red markings, which is usually concealed by a white kitsune mask decorated with red tassels and bells, with red markings similar to that of his face. His appearance has been described by Mangetsu to be sharp and more rugged as compared to Yuta. For jewelry, he wears two necklaces; the first made up of gold squares, and the second a foxfire pendant hanging from a red string decorated with white beads. Unlike Yuta's pendant, the design of his foxfire pendant includes a circle surrounding the fire, where the red string hangs from, and is even topped off with an omamori knot at the bottom.

Unlike Yuta whose outfit is made up of equal parts of black and white, Yuga's outfit is predominantly black and trimmed with red, consisting of a single-sleeved two-layered kimono top decorated with simplistic gold lines, with the first shorter layer trimmed with red tassels, and a black hakama emblazoned with red patterns on the lower half. He also wears black arm guards that stretch up to his upper arm, trimmed in gold and red in a similar fashion to his clothing. His hakama is tucked under black and yellow shin guards, held tightly with leather belts on each side. A layer of red and gold fabric wraps the top half of his lower half, with a rectangular section hanging at the front. On his feet, he wears grey socks, coupled with black geta shoes with red straps. His outfit is held together with a thick red-and-white shimenawa rope, coupled with a much thinner rope, with red and white tassels decorated with cyan beads hanging on his left and right side respectively. On top of it, a smaller rectangular red-white fabric is draped over the ropes on his waist and hangs at the front like a sash.

First Letter

Woman

Someone's having a great time at the antique shop, huh. I'll tell you—

Ngh! Curses! I didn't expect that guy's kotodama to be so formidable. I can't even write what I want!

I'll have to put this off for now. I'll find you later. Just you wait.

Second Letter

Woman

...

It appears I'm still unable to write about the truth to you.

Forget it. Since I can't do anything about it, let's chat. I've been observing you from the shadows for a long time. I didn't do it because I like you! Don't misunderstand! I just want to know where you got those desserts you bought previously.

H-hold it! I-I'm not getting them for myself! I want to know where to get them, so I can give them as a present in the future. I wouldn't eat something made by humans.

...Though I guess I can force myself to take a bite if my brother gives them to me.

Third Letter

Woman

Hey, woman!

Why are you so happy? You always have a bright smile on your face when you're in the antique shop. Did something good happen?

I-I already said I'm not observing you because I like you!

It's so lively out there, I'm a little envi— no, that's not it! Nine-tailed foxes are noble creatures who don't feel envy! I-I'm just curious.

Quick, tell me your secret to happiness!

The following segments detail Yuga's story throughout Miss Kitty's Antiques. This section is nothing but spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Before the Story

Yuga is a nine-tailed fox yokai from the revered Nine-Tailed Fox clan. Although he is not as strong as his brother Yuta, who was able to inherit the Origin Pearl, he is considered much more powerful than most yokai, to the point of becoming part of the highly respected Supreme Four. Unlike Yuta, he does not hold compassion for others, especially humans, and does not see them as anything more than a cowardly, inferior species. Amidst his cold exterior, he holds deep respect for Yuta, and does not value anything else over him. However, having disregarded anything else other than Yuta for most of his life, Yuga eventually lost sight of what was truly important to him, and has shown to be envious of seemingly trivial concepts such as happiness.

A hundred years ago, the unfortunate death of Mangetsu, Yuta's human beloved, dealt a devastating blow to Yuta, which caused the latter to wait for a century in solitude as he awaited Mangetsu's eventual resurrection. Yuga, who was unable to empathize with Yuta's grief due to his lack of compassion and pity for humans and their fragility, had tried to convince him to give up on this seemingly meaningless endeavor, but to no avail. Since Mangetsu's revival as a cat yokai ten years ago, and learning that Yuta's Origin Pearl was passed on to her, Yuga, who was unable to understand Yuta's sacrifice, has been attempting to lure Mangetsu away from Yuta in order to return the Origin Pearl to its owner before it becomes too late. Yet, Mangetsu's nature as a cat yokai, as well as presumably the power of the Origin Pearl, prevented her from falling under the influence of others as easily like before. Furthermore, Yuta also casted a kotodama on Yuga; a spell that prevents him from directly revealing the truth as long as Yuta continues to live, so that Yuga would not be able to interfere directly.

Having dismissed everything else other than Yuta for most of his life, Yuga has never been truly able to fully understand Yuta's actions, with the latter going so far as to accompany Mangetsu on her endeavors to search for the Origin Pearl despite the latter knowing exactly where it was. Thus, presumably over the past years, Yuga has instead been observing Mangetsu from the shadows, biding his time until an opportunity arises to finally return the Origin Pearl to its rightful owner -- though whether this is truly because of his sole intention of retrieving the pearl remains a question to be answered.

Trivia[]

  • According to Yuga, he was naturally born with black fur.
    • It is possible that this is also the case for Yuta, given the fact that they are twin brothers.
